Subject pronouns: Pronouns that replace the subject


(the who) in the sentence. (Pronombres que
reemplazan el subjetivo en la frase).
Object pronouns: Pronouns that replace the object (the
what) in the sentence. (Pronombres que reemplazan el
objeto en la frase)

Ex) Mary did the homework.


Mary is the subject and the homework is the object
So we can replace “Mary” and “homework” with
pronouns
She did it.
*Note: pronouns must be in reference to a noun.
Otherwise, it is hard to know what you’re talking about.
(los pronombres deben estar en referencia a un
sustantivo. De lo contrario, es difícil saber de qué estás
hablando.)
In Spanish, object pronouns generally go before the
verb.
Ex) Ella lee el libro --->Ella lo lee
In English, object pronouns go after the verb
Ex) She reads the book ---> She reads it

Activity: Read each sentence and determine which of


the underlined words is the subject and which is the
object. Then, replace the underlined words with the
correct pronouns

the pronoun is referring to and if it is a subject or object

Possessive Pronouns

Strong Possessive Pronouns: These pronouns are


used to show possession or ownership (posesión o
propiedad). These go after a “be” verb (is, was, am
etc.).
Weak Possessive Pronouns: (also called possessive
adjectives) These pronouns are used to show
possession or ownership, but go before the noun. They
act like adjectives.
