0 SWOT analysis

SWOT analysis is the basic framework of every business organization. It is mainly used to
distinguish and analyse the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. We can
diagnose problems through internal and external factors and help improve the performance
of business organizations. Strengths and weaknesses refer to internal factors such as
physical and financial resources, while opportunities and threats focus on external factors
such as market and economic trends. The following is the SWOT analysis of underwater
photography in Mantanani Island:

Strengths

a) Climatic Conditions

The climate on Mantanani Island is fairly hot, with an average temperature of 28°C. The
sea temperature varies by more than 22°C from mid-June to the end of September,
making it ideal for a summer holiday.

b) Magnificent aquatic flora and fauna

The sea has a distinct cleanliness, clarity, and visibility due to the continuous movement
of water between the bays and coves. The sea is home to a variety of marine animals,
including blue-spotted rays, marbled sting rays, imperial shrimps, jaw fish ribbon eels,
seahorses, pink-eyed gobbles, and the jaw-dropping blue ringed octopus. Diverse
aquatic species inspire specialty tourism for educational underwater photography.

c) Various Promotions and Deals

Blue plankton watch, beach volleyball, fishing, kayaking, and trampoline are among the
island's holiday offerings. Aside from diving, guests can participate in a variety of
activities on Mantanani Island to enhance their experience.
d) Proven on the media market as a diving destination
Mantanani Island is a tourist powerhouse that has identified diving tourism as a distinct
specialty and developed a specific offer for divers as a result. On Mantanani Island, there
are approximately 14 dive centres that all offer diving, courses, and tours. Mantanani
Island has been acknowledged as one of the extant diving locations on big media
marketplaces, and it is also included as a destination on some of the most famous web
sites for purchasing tourist diving services, such as Amazing Borneo and Sabah Travel.
Diving has evolved from a highly specialised activity to one of the most popular water
sports, with a well-organized industry because most divers belong to diving
organisations or centres, giving them easy targets for underwater photography.

Weakness

a) Less international diving qualifications.

Most diving facilities have international qualifications such as Professional Association of

Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Diving International (SDI), and Technical Diving
International (TDI) in most well-known diving destinations. Only some of the dive
organizations on Mantanani Island have a sum of approx. PADI certification is the most
common and worldwide famous professional certification provided to diving clubs.

b) The lack of maritime protected zones

Mantanani Island has no marine protected areas, which has a negative impact on the
development of aquatic plants and animals, making scuba diving less appealing. In
Sabah, fish bombing is a disaster for the diving business. It not only repels tourists, but
it also wreaks havoc on marine life and puts fishermen in risk.

b) Lack of physical infrastructure

Electrical and water supply, telephone reception, and a jetty are three forms of
infrastructure that the people of Mantanani Island consider to be necessary. The
electrical supply on Mantanani Island is currently only available at night, from 6 p.m. to
6 a.m., which makes it difficult to do business, particularly when involving electricity.
