The reason for the island's closure is a lack of knowledge about how to properly dispose of the waste
water. They don't even understand the distinction between the two types of sewage systems. The closure's

Boracay Island is one of the Philippines' most popular tourist destinations. White, powdery sand,
turquoise water, and a breathtaking sunset are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the island resort.
For good reason, visitors refer to it as an "Island Paradise." Unfortunately, this is no longer the case these
days. The white, powdery sand is still there. You can still see the breathtaking sunset. The turquoise water,
however, is no longer clean or safe for swimming or other water activities. Marine life is also in jeopardy
right now. According to recent inspections, the seawater surrounding the island is contaminated with
coliform bacteria. Human waste and kitchen runoffs are dumped directly into the sea without being filtered.
Many commercial establishments and tourist attractions were discovered to lack a proper sewerage system.
Similarly, the natural environment on the island is being altered indiscriminately. Cuts are made in rock
formations to make way for tourist facilities. Encroachment into forested areas, as well as the construction
of concrete structures in places where they should not be, are on the rise. All of this was done for financial
gain.
