Architecture Crash-Course

List of Deliverables:
Architectural Lettering
Architectural Sketches
Architecture 3D model
Architecture Photography
REVIT Review
My journey on the STEM Choice elective was based around further learning for
the field of architecture. My original intent at the start of the course was to have an
initial taste of this field of study and learn multiple aspects of this field. However, I was
too ambitious in this with not being able to meet all of my original deliverables
throughout the last two quarters of the school year. This reflection will detail out my
original deliverables versus the progress that has been made thus far.
My original deliverables encompassed multiple learning modules that would
outline the basic terminology and facets of the architectural occupation. I had chosen a
variety of courses in hopes that I would be able to learn a small sampling of each facet
and would indicate specific areas that I would desire to pursue for further learning. I did
succeed in this aspect as I nearly finished all six courses - that ranged from an
introduction to architecture, independent learning for Roman architecture (explanation
further on), green architecture, REVIT, the learning of architecture symbols
(independent outside of the course offerings), and infographics. I feel that I went too in-
depth to some of these courses with the time that I had allotted in my scope and
sequence for my time management. The intention was for this to be a crash course and
in that regard, I feel that I needed additional balance to make it more introductory level
for each of the modules.
One of my deliverables was to display the learned skill sets via my E-portfolio
Section. I believe that this will be met with the finalization of my scanned items of
completed work. This would include things such as my architectural photography of my
3D model, samples of architectural lettering, preferred sketches and potential REVIT
models.
My original scope and sequence also included a deliverable of an infographic to
depict a core process of architecture. My original assumption was that this was a key
deliverable in the field of architecture. After additional learning, I was able to revise this
assumption that it was not as critical as I had originally believed. I did not pursue this as
a final deliverable for my project. I did initiate the planning and requirements around the
infographic, but it did not come to fruition as a physical deliverable.
Additionally, I had planned for an original deliverable to create a communication
log from colleges. This goal was partially met in my STEM choice studies. I was
successful in the identification of key colleges that were of interest in this endeavor. I
was able to find the required information from their online content utilizing course
descriptions, descriptions of their architecture programs and student blogs. I did not
initiate communications with the colleges directly as the information was readily
available online.
The last original deliverable was participating with a design of a family garden
utilizing the REVIT tool. If I wanted to meet this deliverable, I should have planned to
have the REVIT tool module earlier in the process. I do not have the appropriate skill
set in my learning at this time to successfully create this design. I did not realize that
REVIT would be as time-consuming to learn. My time management could have been
improved in this deliverable to be met.
Overall, I am proud of the progress and successes that I did have in this STEM
choice course. I feel that I have additional progress that can be accomplished to meet
some of the original deliverables, which can continue outside of this course. I did have
additional learning that was performed outside of my scope and sequence (architecture
lettering, symbols, and photography). I do feel that if I could do this course again, I
would improve my time management by having more focused topics and targeted
timeline. I did feel that my final deliverables of letting, sketches, 3D model, photography
and the beginning REVIT skills, did help me to reach my goal of learning more about the
field of Architecture. This is an excellent start of my architectural portfolio that will aid
me in my quest for higher learning outside of high school.
