Research Gaps

1. Cyber & Data Security

One of the biggest challenges faced in E- commerce is security breaches. There is a lot of

information/data that is involved while dealing with eCommerce and a technical glitch with data

can cause harsh damage to the retailer’s daily working as well as brand image.

2. Online Identity Verification

Retailer has no information regarding the customer nature, their demands. When a shopper visits

an eCommerce site, how would the retailer know if the person is who they say they are? Is the

shopper entering accurate information? Is the shopper genuinely interested in the eCommerce

products? It means there is a lack of accurate details or information available so, it becomes

tricky to proceed?

3. Attracting the Perfect Customer

Shoppers have so many options to choose from these days. So, they do pre-research before

buying a product. If shoppers have several options, how do you make sure they pick you because

of competition in the market. How do you go about finding that perfect customer that wants your

product, at your rate and to the places you can ship?

4. Customer Experience

Customer experience or user experience is key to a successful eCommerce website because

shoppers expect a same kind of user experience as off Offline store so, that becomes a challenge

for retailers.

5. Customer Loyalty

Customer loyalty is very important which can cost up to 5 times more to acquire a new customer

than retaining an existing one also the success rate of selling to a current customer is around 60-

70% compared to only 5-20% success rate of selling to a new customer.

6. Converting Shoppers into Paying Customers

Converting visitors into paying customers is one of the biggest ecommerce challenges. An E-

Commerce website might get a lot of traffic, clicks or impressions but they might not be making

the sales they are anticipating.

7. Competition & Competitor Analysis

There are a lot of options available for a particular product these days are people are fatigued by

all the options that are out there. A simple search for something like headsets will give you

thousands of options, so that creates confusion in buyer’s mind.

8. Price & Shipping

Customers prefers to purchase products from places that have free shipping available like
Amazon provides so, customers seldom want to look at other options also which becomes a pain
point for customers.

9. Product Return & Refund Policies

When an E-Commerce site says “no returns or refunds” it makes a shopper less interested for the

product and less likely to trust the retailer. When shopping online, customers want the

adjustability of making a mistake that does not cost them.

10. Choosing the Right Technology and Partners to Fix E-Commerce Challenges

Use of Right technology or partner can make or break the business. A retailer’s growth might be

stunted because their technology might be limited and because they have hired the wrong agency

to help them manage their projects. There are a lot of areas that need to be in place for a retail

business to be successful, and of course a good technology is very crucial.
