METHOD STATEMENT FOR SITE CLEARING, GRUBBING AND DEMOLITION


WORKS

1. GENERAL

This work shall consist of removing and disposing of all materials such as shrubs, bushes, stumps,
roots, top soil not exceeding 150mm, rubbish and others unwanted materials which are not suitable
to incorporate in the works.
Demolition works mainly consist of removal of existing culverts, bridges, pavements, kerbs,
manholes, fences, and other existing structures, which falls within the right of way including other
structures, such as temples, shops and etc.

Setting out data, cross sections of the section of work shall be made available to the contractor so
as to set out the limits of the site clearing.

2. MACHINERY & EQUIPMENT

The equipment to be used for site clearing, grubbing and demolition shall be done using Hydraulic
Excavators, Wheel Loader, Crawler Dozer, Roller, dumpers and labors.

3. CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS

3.1 SITE CLEARING AND GRUBBING

Site clearing shall be carried out using Hydraulic Excavator by excavating tree stumps, removal
of bushes, and removal of unsuitable materials. Once completed, we shall use wheel loader or

dozer to strip off and clear other vegetation such as grass, weeds and etc. All cleared material
shall be disposed at designated areas using tippers or dumpers. Where necessary, upon
leveling of the ground, vibratory roller shall be used to compact the ground prior to
Embankment fill all according to clause 201.2 & 201.3.

3.2 DEMOLITION WORKS

Demolition of existing structures, which hinder the construction of new works or in the right of
way, shall be removed by using Hydraulic excavator, Lorries and manpower. A joint
measurement of the affected structure or buildings shall be carried out together and in the
presence of the Engineer’s representative. Wherever dismantled materials can be salvaged for
reuse, these materials shall be stockpiled at designated areas within 1000m as instructed by
Engineer.

4. SITE RECORDS

All works to be carried out pursuant to the above shall be recorded and verified jointly with the
Engineer’s representative for record and claim purposes. The samples of records to be used for the
above works are summarized as per Table 1.

5. METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
Measurement for Pavement as per clause 202.6.

5.1 Site Clearing will be measured according to area (hectares) as mention in BOQ Bill No 1 Item
1.01, and as for stump removal it shall be measured by numbers (Nr) claimed according to
BOQ Bill No 1 Item 1.02. The Quantity of area and numbers of stump shall be obtained from
joint survey.

5.2 For Demolition works, all structure’s, pavement, and etc is measured according to size, shape,
thickness and area in terms of Cubic Meters (Cu.m.), Metric Ton (T), Number (Nr.), Linear
Meter (m) and Meter Squares (Sq.M). as per Table 2.

6. SAFETY MAESURES
All safety precautionary measures shall be taken as stated below: -

i) Signboards shall be placed along the right hand side on increasing chainage at every 500
meters i.e. “KEEP RIGHT WORK IN PROGRESS”, GO SLOW WORK IN PROGRESS”.
ii) Moveable signboards shall be place at area where heavy machineries and survey works
being carried out. Flagman’s shall control the movement of machines and tippers/dumpers
at these areas. Signboards such as “CAUTION MAN AT WORK GO SLOW”, “CAUTION
GO SLOW WORK IN PROGRESS”.
iii) At areas where embankment height is >3m height, bridge and underpass construction
areas, barricade with reflective plates shall be placed at every 50-meter wherever
applicable as part of safety measures.
