Life at Makkah

Early life
1. I have named him Muhammad so that his name may be praised on the
earth and in the heavens. (Abdul Muttalib)
2. Did He not find you and orphan and gave you shelter? (Sura Duha)
3. "no prophet was sent by Allah wo was not a shepherd" (Hadith)

Call to Prophethood
1. "Read" Muhammad replied, "I cannot read." He then squeezed the
Prophet's chest hard, and said again, "Read".
2. Proclaim in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, who created –
created man out of a mere clot of congealed blood:
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful
He Who taught by the pen
taught man that which he knew not. (Sura Alaq)
3. Muhammad (pbuh), you are the messenger of Allah and I am Jibrael.
4. You have never done any wrong to any one, You are kind to others and you
help the poor. Allah will not let you down. (Hazrat Khadija)

Preaching
1. O thou wrapped up (in a mantle)! Arise and deliver thy warning! And thy
Lord do thou magnify. (Quran)
2. And admonish thy nearest kinsmen. (Quran)
3. I have brought you the best of this world and the next. Allah has
ordered me to call you to him so who of you will stand by me in this
matter. (Hadith)
4. Prophet of Allah! I shall be your helper. I will fight him who fights you.
(Hazrat Ali)
5. Expound openly what thou art commanded and turn away from those who
join false gods with Allah. (Quran)
6. O Quraish, if I were to tell you that there were some horsemen in the
valley waiting to raid you, would you believe me? (Holy Prophet)

Opposition and Persecution


1. O uncle! If they place the sun on my right hand and the moon on my left
hand, and ask me to stop preaching the word of Go to the people, I will
never accepts what they say. I shall persist in it until Allah enables me to
discharge it fully or I perish in the attempt. (Holy Prophet)
2. You have your religion and I have my religion. (Quran)
3. May the hand of Abu Lahab perish, doomed he is. His wealth and his
properties shall not save him; he shall be thrown in to a flaming fire of
hell. (Quran)
Reasons for Quraish opposition
1. Also they say: why is not this Quran sent down to some leading man in
either of the two (chief) cities. (Quran)
2. Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger? (Quran)

Examples to be followed by the Muslims today


1. Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His
Messenger and never since doubted, but have striven with their
belongings and their persons in the cause of Allah; such are the sincere
ones. (Quran)
2. The Believers are but but a single Brotherhood. (Quran)
3. You have, indeed, in the Messenger of God a beautiful pattern of conduct.
(Quran)

Migration to Abyssinia
1. Good is for those who do good in this world, and Allah's earth is spacious.
Those who are patient in this world shall receive their rewards in full,
without reckoning. (Quran)
2. They are the first people to migrate in the cause of Allah after Ibrahim
and Lot. (Prophet)
3. And make mention of Mary in the Book... (Quran)
4. By God! This and the Gospel are the lights of one candle. (Najashi)

Isra and Miraj


1. Glory to Him who carried His servant by night from the sacred Mosque to
the distant Mosque—the precincts of which we have blessed-in order
that we might show him some of Our signs. (Quran)
2. You have been guided to the fitrah. (Bukhari)
3. I have asked my lord till I am ashamed to face him. (Bukhari)

Migration to Madinah
1. And We put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We
covered them up, so they cannot see. (Quran)
2. Remember how the unbelievers plotted against thee, to keep thee in
bonds, or slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). The plot and plan, and
Allah too plans, But the best of planners is Allah. (Quran)
3. ...for Allah did indeed help him, when the unbelievers drove him out: he
had no more than one companion: the two were in the cave, and he said to
his companion, 'Have no fear, for Allah is with us'. (Quran)
4. Let it go its own way. It is under orders. (Hadith)
Life at Madinah
1st A.H.
Mosque of the Prophet (phuh)
1. ---, there is a mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day
on piety; it is more worthy of thy standing forth (for prayer)
therein. In it are men who love to be purified, and Allah loves those
who make themselves pure. (Quran)
Brotherhood
1. And remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for you were
enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His grace, you
became brothers...... (Quran)
2nd A.H.
Change of Qiblah
1. Turn then your face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque;
wherever you are turn your faces in that direction. (Quran)
Permission to fight
1. To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to fight)
because they are wronged..... (Quran)
2. Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you. (Quran)
Battle of Badr
1. Remember you implored the assistance of your Lord, and He
answered you: "I will assist you with a thousand of the angels,
ranks on ranks." (Quran)
2. Allah! If this small band of men perish, there will be no one alive to
worship You, and your faith will be destroyed forever. (Prophet)
3. Allah had helped you at Badr, when you were a contemptible little
force. (Quran)
4. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "You shall not be the first to attack. You
shall not permit personal hate or revenge sway your hearts while
fighting. You shall not raise your arms against anyone who is not a
party to the fight. You will spare the ole and the sick. You shall
protect women and children from injury."
5. There has already been for you a sign in the two armies that
met.....(3:13)
6. Called "Day of distinguishing" in 8:41.

Importance
1. It is not you who slew them; it was Allah: when you thrust (a handful of
dust) it was not your act, but Allah's: in order that He might test the
believers....... (Quran)
3rd A.H.
Battle of Uhad
1. And behold! The hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease say:
'God and his Messenger promised us nothing but delusions'. (Quran)
2. Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met it was Satan
who caused them to fail—(Quran)
3. What ye suffered on the day the two armies met, was with the leave of
Allah, in order that He might test the believers. (Quran)
4. Allah did indeed fulfil his promise to you when you, with his permission,
were about to annihilate your enemy, until you flinched and fell to
disputing about the order and disobeyed..... (Quran)
5. You are fighting for neither land nor wealth nor bloodshed but merely to
defend the word of Allah and to keep high the banner of truth. (Prophet)
Importance
1. Be not cast down, neither be ye grieved. Ye shall be yet victorious if ye
are true Believers. (Quran)

5th A.H.
Battle of Trench
1. And behold! The hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease say:
'God and his Messenger promised us nothing but delusions'. (Quran)
2. Behold! They came down on you from above you and from below you.....
(33:10)
3. O you who believe! Remember Allah's blessing on you when hosts came
against you, and we loosed against them a wind, and hosts you did not see.
Allah sees what you do. (Quran)
4. And Allah sent back those that were unbelievers in their rage and they
attained no good. Allah spared the Believers of fighting. Surely Allah is
Mighty, Strong. (Quran)

6th A.H.
Treaty of Hudaibiya
1. Truly did Allah fulfill the vision for His Messenger: you shall enter the
Sacred Mosque, if Allah wills, with minds secure, and without fear---
(Quran)
2. Allah's Good Pleasure was on the Believers when they swore fealty to you
under the tree: He knew what was in their hearts, and he sent down
tranquility to them: and He rewarded them with a speedy victory. (Quran)
3. Verily, We have granted you a manifest victory. (Quran)
7 A.H.
Khyber Expedition
1. Allah has not permitted you to enter into the houses of the people of
theBook, except with permission, or to torture their women, or to eat
their fruits, when they have fulfilled their terms with you. (Prophet)

Prophet (pbuh) and Jews


1. Turn then your face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque;
wherever you are turn your faces in that direction. (Quran)
2. And those of the People of the Book who aided them (Allies), Allah did
take them down from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts;
some you slew and some you made prisoners. (Quran)

Hypocrites
1. When it is said to them. 'Come to what Allah has revealed, and to the
messenger', thou seest the hypocrites avert their faces from thee in
disgust. (Quran)
2. "those who heart is diseased" (Quran)

8th A.H.
Conquest of Makkah
1. And say: Truth has (now) prevailed and falsehood has pereished; for
falsehood is bound to perish (by its nature). (17:81)
2. You are a noble brother and a noble cousin. (Makkans to Prophet pbuh)
There shall be no reproach against you this day, go, you are free.
(Prophet)
3. When comes the help of Allah, and victory, And you see people entering
the religion of Allah in crowds, celebrate the praises of Allah and ask for
His Forgiveness... (Quran)

Battle of Hunain
Assuredly Allah did help you in many battle fields and on the day of Hunain:
Behold! Your great numbers elated you , but they availed you naught;..... and your
turned back in retreat. But Allah did pour His calm on the Messenger and on the
Believers and sent down forces which you saw not: -- (Quran)

Tabuk Expedition
1. Those who were left behind rejoiced in tarrying behind the Messenger of
Allah and were averse to struggling with their possessions and their
selves in the way of Allah. They said, 'Go not Forth in the heat'. Say. "
The Fire of Jahannam is hotter, did they but understand!"
Death
1. The rights of you are attached to me, I am a human. If I have hurt
anyone's honor, here is my honor, he should avenge himself. (Prophet)
2. Be watchful about your five daily prayers; and rights of your women and
servant.... Do not worship my grave after me. Allah alone is worthy of all
worship.

Qualities of Prophet (pbuh)


Prophet (pbuh) as Model of Excellence
1. And you (O Prophet) stand on an exalted standard of character. (Quran)
2. You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah, a beautiful pattern (of
conduct) for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day. (Quran)
3. Allah has sent me to perfect good qualities of character and to complete
good deeds. (Prophet)
4. His habits were in accordance with the teachings of Quran.

Mercy and Forgiveness


1. We sent you not but as a mercy for all the creation. (Quran)
2. No, I hope that God will let them beget children who will worship God
alone. (Prophet)
3. Hold to forgiveness; command what is right..... (Quran)
4. There shall be no reproach against you this day. Go, you are free.
(Prophet on Conquest of Makkah)
5. Allah! Forgive my people for they know not. (Prophet)

Fulfillment of Promises
1. Abu Jandal! Be patient, we cannot break the treaty. Allah will very soon
find a way for you. (Prophet)
2. Both of you must go back; we will keep the promise under all
circumstances. (Prophet at Badr)

Steadfastness and Patient Perseverance


1. By the Star when it goes down. Your Companion (Muhammad) is neither
astray nor being misled. Nor does he say of his own desire. (Quran)
2. We indeed have granted you the Abundance. (Quran)
3. O uncle! If they place the sun on my right hand and the Moon on my left
on the condition that I abandon this course, I would not abandon it, until
Allah had made victorious or I die therein. (Prophet)
4. Why should I pray for the destruction of these people? I hope that their
posterity will certainly be among the believers in one Allah. (Prophet at
Taif)
5. Allah, give guidance to Saqeef. (Hadith)
6. Do not grieve, verily, God is with us. (Quran)
Honesty and Truthfulness
1. O Quraish, if I were to tell you that there were some horsemen in the
valley waiting to raid you, would you believe me? (Holy Prophet)
1. Verily, we have sent you in truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a
Warner. (Quran)
2. One who earns for himself (by his own hands and hard work) is a friend
of Allah. (Hadith)

Humility
1. Allah! Make this pilgrimage a pilgrimage without pretence and fame.
(Prophet)
2. Do not praise me as the Christians praise the son of Mary. I am a servant
of God, call me a servant and messenger of God. (Hadith)
3. Before you We sent (messengers) to many nations, and We afflicted the
nations with suffering and adversity, that there might learn humility.
(Quran)

Justice and Equality


1. The people before you were destroyed because they used to inflict the
legal punishments on the poor and forgive the rich. By Him in Whose Hand
my soul is! If Fatima did that (i.e. stole), I would cut off her hand.
(Hadith)

Kindness
1. Allah is not kind to him who does not show kindness to others. (Hadith)
2. Be kind to those on earth The One in Heaven will be kind to you. (Hadith)
3. The Compassionate One has mercy on those who are merciful. (Hadith)

Prophet as Dynamic Leader


1. Whoever committed any excess against a non-Muslim or used force
against him unjustly, I will advocate against such a Muslim on the Final
Day. (Prophet)
2. If Ibrahim had survived, I would have exempted all the Coptic (Egyptian
Christian) population from the payment of Jizya. (Prophet)

How can muslims apply the Prophet's example to their lives?


1. One who cheats is not among us. (Hadith)
2. So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. (Quran)
3. Let there be no compulsion in religion.
4. Say (O Muhammad): If you truly love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you
and forgive your sins; for, Allah is Oft-forgiving, most Merciful. (Quran)
Seal of the Prophets
1. This day have I perfected your religion for you; completed My Favour
upon you and have chosen for you Islam as you religion. (Quran)
2. There will be no prophet after me and no Ummah after you. (Prophet)
3. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of prophets. (Quran)
4. There is a beautiful and majestic building, but in one of its corners a
brick is missing. I am that brick. (Prophet)

Prophet's Behavior towards Others


Treatment to Companions
1. When Allah’s Messenger was asked for anything he never said `No to
anyone.‖ (Bukhari and Muslim).
Treatment to Strangers
1. Give food and greeting to those you know and those you do not know.
(Hadith)
Treatment to Children
1. Whoever maintains two daughters till they attain maturity, he and I will
be together on the Resurrection Day like this. (Hadith)- Prophet joined
his fingers
2. Allah, I love him, so I beseech you to love him. (Prophet praying for
Hassan)
3. Hussain belongs to me and I to him. May Allah love him who loves Hussain.
(Prophet)
4. What can I do if Allah has taken away love from you? (Prophet)

Treatment to Enemies
1. Why should I pray for the destruction of these people? I hope that their
posterity will certainly be among the believers in one Allah. (Prophet at
Taif)

Treatment to Women
1. Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily, to him
(or her) We give a new life that is good and pure..... (Quran)
2. Seeking knowledge is a duty of every Muslim man and Muslim woman.
(Hadith)
3. Whosoever has a daughter and does not bury her alive, does not insult
her, and does not favor his son over her, God will enter him into Paradise.
(Hadith)
4. Men are maintainer of women. (Quran)
5. And the (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them. (Quran)
6. The most perfect believers are the best in conduct and the best of you
are those who are best to their wives. (Hadith)
7. Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.
8. And We have enjoined upon man to be good to his parents; his mother
bears him in weakness upon weakness.... (Quran)
9. you people, you have right over your wives and your wives have rights over
you. Treat your wives with kindness and love; verily, you have taken them
on the security of Allah. (Prophet)

Treatment of animals
1. Fear Allah in your treatment of these animals who cannot speak.
Treatment of Orphans, poor and needy
2. ―I and one who takes care of an orphan, will enter Paradise together like
this‖__ and he raised his forefinger and middle finger together, leaving
no space between them. (Bukhari)
3. ―He who works hard on behalf of old women and the destitute is like a
Mujahid (a warrior) fighting in the Cause of Allah; or like a person
standing in prayer who never tires, or like one who observes the fast and
does not break it. (Agreed upon)
4. ―The worst food is the food served at a walimah dinner to which rich
persons are invited and from which poor people are excluded.‖ (Bukhari
and Muslim)
5. ―Allah, I declare sinful any failure to safeguard the rights of two kinds
of weak ones: orphans and women.‖ (Nasai)
6. ―The best house among the Muslims’ houses is one which contains an
orphan who is well-treated, and the worst house among the Muslims’
houses is one which contains an orphan who is badly treated.‖ (Ibn
Majah).
7. ―If anyone provides food and drink for an orphan, Allah will absolutely
guarantee him Paradise, unless he commits an unpardonable sin.‖ (Prophet)

Treatment of slaves
1. They are your brothers; give them to eat what you eat; give them to wear
what you wear. (Prophet
2. On who treats his slaves badly and unkindly will not enter Paradise.
(Prophet)

Prophet's teaching about financial Ethics


1. He who seeks the world lawfully to refrain from begging to cater to his
family, and to be kind to his neighbors will meet God with his face shining
like the full moon. (Prophet)
2. One who cheats is not amongst us. (Prophet)
3. He who gives a bribe and he who takes a bribe will both go to hellfire.
(Hadith)
4. Hoarding is accursed. (Prophet)
5. "Whenever Muhammad led the caravan, he did not enter his house on his
return to Makkah without clearing accounts with me. (Business partner of
Prophet)
6. One who works for himself is a friend of God. (Prophet)
7. And establish Salah and pay Zakah.... (Hadith)

Islam in the Community Life


1. Believers are but a single brotherhood. (Quran)
2. Not one of you believes until he desires for his brother what he desires
for himself. (Hadith)
3. ..... Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah..... (Quran)
4. Verily, Allah has ordained the payment of Zakah on the Muslims. It will
be taken from the rich and returned to the poor. (Hadith)
5. Mosques are among the most beloved places in the sight of Allah.
(Prophet)
6. Help one another in righteousness and piety but do not help another in
sin... (Hadith)
7. Those who hearken to their Lord and establish regular prayer, who
conduct their affairs by mutual consultation. (Quran)
8. Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Quran)

Muslim States in relation with other States


1. There shall be no reproach against you this day, go, you are free.
(Prophet)
2. Let there be no compulsion in religion. (Quran)
3. Whoever harms a non Muslim subject will not enter Paradise. (Hadith)
4. ....Had Allah not repelled some men by the light of others, the
monasteries and churches, the synagogues and mosques in which Allah's
name is frequently remembered, would have been utterly destroyed.
(Quran)
5. ....Allah loves the doers of justice.... (Quran)
6. And fulfill the covenant, for the Covenant shall be questioned about. (Quran)
7. Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress
limits. (Quran)
