Answer ALL questions.

1) Show of which compound between 1.50 g of NaHCO3 or 1.65 g of Ca(OH)2 that

contains the most number of oxygen atoms. Give the answer to correct
significant figures.

List of molar masses (g mol -1) of elements: C = 12.0, H = 1.0, O = 16.0, Ca =

40.1, Na = 23. Avogadro constant = 6.022 × 1023 mol−1

2) Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. A combustion analysis of caffeine

revels it only contains C, H, O and N elements. An amount of 0.9215 g of caffeine
produced 1.6720 g of CO2, 0.4275 g of H2O and the ratio of N/O is 0.57. Determine
the empirical formula and molecular formula of caffeine. Given the molar mass of
caffeine is 194.2 g mol -1.
