MODULE NO. 1
TOPIC: REVIEW OF FACTORIZATION
Dear parents,
In this time of health pandemic, we would be glad if you could help us facilitate this lesson to our learners to be able to
continue his/her holistic development. Thank you and we will heal and journey as one.
School Administration
I. LEARNING TARGET:
In this lesson, the learners will be able to;
1. review the factorization of polynomials
2.factor the polynomials
Solution:
Step 1: factor the x2. It can be written as (x)(x).
Step 2: write all the factors of -5.
Factors are: (-1,5),(-5,1)
Step 3: get the factor of -5 that can give a sum of positive 4 and a product of negative 5.
then we have,
x 2+4x-5
(x-1)(x+5)
Solution: x-1
x+5
5x-5
x2 – x___
x2+ 4x – 5
(3x+1)(x+1)
=3x2+3x+x+1
=3x2+4x+1
***for more examples, open you mathematics 9 book on page 110 to 111. Read and understand the topic review of
factorization***
III. ACTIVITY: COMPLETE SOLUTION
A. Factor the quadratic polynomials.
3. 6x2+5x+1 5. 4x 2+8x+3

2. solve quadratic equation by completing the square
Example:
1. Solve each by completing the square
a. x 2+ 8 x+2=0
2
x + 8 x=−2 - subtract 2 from the both sides
2
x + 8 x+16=−2+16 - complete the square by adding 16 on the sides
( x +4 )2=14 - factor
x +8=± √ 14 - apply the square root principle
x=−4 ± √14 - subtract 4 from both sides
b. x 2−2 x−12=0
2
x + 2 x=12
2
x −2 x+1=12+ 1
( x−1 )2=13
x−1=± √ 13
x=1 ± √13
x=1+ √ 13∨x=1−√ 13

continue his/her holistic development. Thank you and we will heal and journey as one.
School Administration
I. LEARNING TARGET:
In this lesson, the learners will be able to;
1. write a quadratic equation in standard form
2. follow the steps factoring method
3. solve the quadratic equation by factoring method
FACTORING METHOD
Steps to be followed in solving quadratic equation by factoring:
1.Transpose all terms on the left side of the equation, if necessary.
a. clear the equation of all fractions, if necessary then transpose.
b. remove the parenthesis and then transpose.
2. Combine similar terms.
3. Factor the left side of the equation.
4. Equate each factor to zero.
5. Solve the equation in Step 4.
6. Check each root by substituting it in the original equation.
Examples:
1. x2-7x=0
Solution:
x2-7x=0 factor
x(x-7)=0 equate each factors to 0.
X=0 or x-7=0
X=7 add 7 to both sides
2. 9x2=16
Solution:
9x2 -16=0 equate to zero
(3x+4)(3x-4)=0 factor
3x+4=0 3x-4=0 equate each factor to zero
3x=-4 3x=4 solve for the roots
4 4
X=- x=
3 3
3. 25x2+10x+1=0
Solution:
(5x+1)2=0 factor
5x+1=0 or 5x+1=0 equate to zero
5x=-1 5x=-1 solve for the roots
X=-1/5 x=-1/5
4. 18x2-39x=15
Solution:
18x2-39x-15=0 subtract 15 to both sides
6x2-13x-5=0 divide by 3
