Varsity College
At The IIE’s Varsity College, we go beyond knowledge to teach you skills like
critical thinking and problem solving. We teach you how to think. Because
that’s what’s going to give you the edge in the New World.

Part-Time Learning
The IIE’s Varsity College is preparing a new
generation of South African business leaders.
A combination of; a progressive approach to
education, highly qualified lecturers and
global partners ensure that The IIE’s Varsity
College offers an outstanding level of Part-Time
education, equipping students with the
knowledge and skills to thrive in the New World
of work.
Part-Time study can be done through Contact or
Distance (Online) learning. The mode is
dependent on your selected programme.
Contact Learning is for students that want more
‘face-to-face’ experience and engagement from
lecturers. Contact learning is offered on a
part-time basis with lectures either scheduled
during the week in the evenings or on a
Saturday morning.
Distance Learning allows students to study in
their own space and at their own pace with
facilitated online support throughout the process.
Online support and a thorough learner guide are
offered to distance learners throughout their
studies. Online Tutors and Programme Success
Tutors are also available to students across all
their modules.

of Education (The IIE)
The IIE is The Independent Institute of Education and every Varsity College campus is
an IIE campus.

The IIE is responsible for the academic governance and quality assurance of all
programmes delivered through its campuses.

 The IIE is:
Registered with the Department of Higher
Education and Training as a private higher
education provider and is part of ADvTECH Ltd,
a public company listed on the JSE.
Responsible for:
- the assessment and certification of
Part-Time students
- developing curricula and overseeing its delivery
- ensuring that the correct teaching and learning
processes are implemented and adhered to by
The IIE’s Varsity College
These practices are established by The Senate –
the primary decision-making body determining all
policies and regulations that govern
academic matters.
The Senate is chaired by the Director, who serves
as head of The IIE. The Director is assisted by the
Registrar – the Secretary of The Senate.
The remaining seats are occupied, in most part,
by academics, including representatives from The
IIE’s Varsity College.
The Senate comprises a number of committees
that manage the overseeing of standards,
teaching, learning, curricula and assessment for
over 90 accredited Higher Education qualifications.
In addition, The IIE is accredited by the British
Accreditation Council (BAC), an internationally
recognized quality assurance agency. The BAC is
an independent authority in the UK that accredits
private education providers globally throughout
the UK, Europe and Middle East. The IIE’s
BAC accreditation means that our students are
assured that their IIE learning experience meets
international best practice standards.

Quality Assurance
The continual monitoring and improving of quality are extremely important to The IIE. The quality of The IIE
programmes is assured through evidence driven reviews, lecturer peer reviews, student success tracking
and intervention programmes for students needing assistance.

Academics
At The IIE’s Varsity College, academic life is relevant and participative. Our collaborative and engaging
approach to learning teaches students how to think and ask the right questions. A progressive and blended
learning approach focused on critical thinking and problem solving equips you with the skills you need to
succeed in the world of work.

Academic Staff
The IIE’s Varsity College lecturers and online tutors are highly qualified,
with most remaining active in their field of expertise. Lecturers with industry
experience provide insight into current industry practice and are able to
make subject theory relevant and bring it to life.

All our lecturers and online tutors are part of a dynamic online teaching
community that share new teaching and online support methods as they are
implemented globally.

Further guidance comes from campus-based support teams, development

workshops throughout the year and a peer review system – a measure that
ensures all teaching methodologies consistently deliver quality learning.

Environment
You can find The IIE’s Varsity College in eight campuses across South Africa. Safe, secure and conveniently
located, campus environments are modern spaces and include state-of-the-art lecture rooms, well stocked
libraries, professionally managed canteens, recreation areas and ample parking. Student resources include
an online student portal, committed administration staff, up-to-date account information, detailed lecture
notes and exam results as well as convenient access to the campuses during evenings and Saturdays.
