In recent years flooding has become a larger issue as large storms such as hurricanes have been
increasing. This is resulting in a negative impact on human health and biodiversity. In fact, 50%
of natural disaster deaths are due to flooding worldwide. Additionally, various species are
vulnerable to the impact of floods because of the potential loss of food and habitat.

The root of this problem is climate change. I believe that we must make the public understand
the way they impact our environment and the changes that they can make to reduce their
carbon footprint. Currently I believe there is a gap in knowledge between scientists and the
general public. To solve this issue, we need to share information with the public of easy steps
that could take to reduce their carbon footprint, which would be of great benefit. We need to
make informational material to share on our websites and social media platforms. Additionally,
we need to provide policy makers with educational material on flood control infrastructure.
This could help with the funding of these projects, which is the main obstacle in expanding this
kind of infrastructure.

If possible, I would like to schedule a meeting with you within the next week to discuss the
ideas that I have to better our communication with the public and discuss our marketing/ social
media strategy. Please email me with your availability. I look forward to hearing from you. Deleted: We
