of artist create like, paintings, drawings, and
sculptures.
★ Looked at materials used for creating
different types of art work.

Vincent Van Gogh

★ When Vincent first started drawing he would sketch pictures


using pencils and charcoal sticks.
★ His earlier paintings were sad and so he used Dark colors to
express sadness.
★ Van Gogh committed himself to a mental hospital so others
could help take care of him. There he created his most famous
painting Starry Night.

Pablo Picasso

★ Picasso had two periods. The Blue Period and the Rose Period.
★ For 4 years his paintings were dominated by the color blue.
What do you think this means? Was he sad or happy?
★ For 3 years his paintings were dominated by the colors pink,
red, oranges, and beige. Do you think he was happier or sad?
★ He began Cubism
★ Would give his paintings texture by using sand and
newspapers, colored paper, and wallpaper to give dimension
to his work.

Claude Monet
★ He painted outdoor scenes.
★ He started using the impression of light in his paintings.
★ Used vibrant colors.
★ Painted quickie using short brushstrokes.
★ Painted series where he would paint the same picture but at
different times of day and weather.
★ Monet is one of the great French artists of all time.

Wassily Kandinsky

★ Said “That shapes and colors along can be art”.


★ Became known for Abstract Art.
★ Believed “yellow had the crisp sound of a brass trumpet
and that certain colors placed together could harmonize like
chords”.
★ Used triangles, squares, and circles the most in his
paintings.

★ His mother got him art supplies and he fell in love with
painting.
★ His mother told him to try out new things with art and to paint
with his emotions.
★ He was influenced by artists such as Van Gogh
★ His art consisted of bright colors, and cutouts/collages.

1. You all will be handed a canvas.
2. Look back at the art that was just shown.
3. Choose and artist and create your own work
of art inspired by the artist of your choice.
4. Make sure to use similar art style and
materials that the artist of your choice used.
5. When done your painting/drawing write a art
description to go with your work of art.
