Womens payment in sports

My paper will be answering the question of why women's sports get paid less than mens.

The main topic I will be focusing on is why the amount of money is so low for women. I will

also be talking about why women's sports don't get as much attention as the mens do on

television or posted on social media. I know a lot of people have always wondered why women

don't get paid as much or even higher than some men in sports. For a girl I get the side of why

women get paid more than what they are getting paid right now because I've seen women do

great things in their sports and they don't get enough recognition for it.

male-athletes/

The website that I will be using will be talking about the Women's U.S.A soccer team,

and a bunch of other teams. We will be mainly focusing on the soccer team. As many people

know the women's team is known and seen a lot by many people and some people can even

argue that they are better than the mens team. A Lot of people may know or have heard of Lionel

Messi. Messi makes roughly about 140 million dollars each year. Now that's a lot of money. On

the other hand Carli Lloyd who just retired in 2021 made about 518,00 dollars each year. That's a

big gap from 140 to 518,00. Carli just retired from soccer at the age of 39, and Messi on the

other hand is 37 and makes so much more money than she did in her career.

In 2019 the women's soccer team in the world cup made a big push and the team took a

stance against ¨institutionalized gender discrimination.¨ The whole national team announced in

March that they were going to sue the U.S soccer team seeking equitable pay and treatment for

them. The women's team has by far been more successful than the mens have been for plenty of

years now. The Men's team didn't even qualify for the World cup in 2018 ¨meanwhile the women

have placed in the top three teams in every women's world cup since 1991 (when the women's

tournament began) and has three titles.¨ The soccer team has also captured four golds and a silver

for the olympic games for the U.S. You can obviously see the difference in male and female

sports here and I have only covered the soccer side of it and it's just not all soccer there's many

sports that are having this problem as well. As a kid I watch television and I watch sports. I can

see the difference and the crowds for womens and mens sports, it's really obvious.

Another sport I am going to talk about is basketball. Basketball is my sport. I play it all

the time I watch it when I'm bored. WNBA do not make nearly as much money as the men's side

do. But, there is the same dedication that goes into the women's side just as much as the men's

side. This article states ¨Unfortunately, it is common in any jobs and careers for women to get

paid less money than men for the same work. To me that's biased and I know a lot of women out

there with jobs or careers would say the same thing. The article states that ¨it’s also true that they

don’t fill up nearly as many seats as NBA games, meaning there will be less money paid by fans

to pay the players. Ticket sales are only part of it, yet it’s a big part. NBA players also get better

endorsement deals and jersey sales, increasing their pay by millions. With this being said,

WNBA players should make more money because they have the same dedication as the male

players, sometimes even more.¨ With this being said I think If people would start coming to

womens games and cheering them on then there wouldn't be a fight for equal pay. This article

This last article will be helping me with letting people know women are still fighting for

equal pay in sports and that they aren't going to stop until they get that. So many women's sports

have gone farther and have done bigger things than the men's side of it. The article states ¨Both

the US women's national teams in hockey and soccer have fought for increases in wages and

equitable treatment, arguing that the value they bring to global events like the Olympics and

world championships isn't being fairly compensated. In 2017, members of the women's hockey

team reached a landmark four-year deal with USA Hockey after threatening a boycott.¨ Women

are tired of being left out or being distressed because they aren't good enough or they are boring

to watch. The women's sports associations aren't going to stop asking for equal pay until they get

that. This article was published September 6th 2021, by Carolyn Manno.
