If you know me on a personal level then you would know that this profession is the right

profession for me. I can recall a couple of occasions and experiences that inspired me. Ever

since I can remember I’ve always had an interest in helping children, even when I was a child

myself. When I was in high school, I always selected student aid as an elective but unfortunately

did not get the chance to take that class. When my two little sisters were in elementary, I would

periodically volunteer in their class. Now as an adult I volunteer in my own children’s

classrooms. Being in a classroom setting with children is very amusing to me.

I am certain I have the two most important skills to become a teacher. I am patient and

passionate. I started studying about children abuse after graduating high school, and I just felt

shattered. Once I stepped my foot into that field, I knew it was going to drain me emotionally.

That was when I decided to take the more positive approach of helping children. Although I

know the complexities of the school system and being an educator will be challenging, I accept

the challenge.

I am a high believer in equality especially when it comes to education. There have been

laws that were passed about fair education and I support it entirely. As a future educator, it is

imperative that every student regardless of their race or gender does get treated equally. I

know myself and I know I will treat all the children in my class equally with care and respect. I

am going to devote myself as a teacher to make sure every student in my classroom receives an

equal amount of attention and all feel equally special.

In my classroom I am going to implement fun and creative ways for students to learn.

The substantial amount of experience I have with children in and outside of the classroom, it is
safe to say that children learn better when they are having fun. Student diversity and student

variability will shape the atmosphere in my classroom. I will allow every student in my class to

feel proud of who they are. I will allow every student in my class to be able to release their

personalities so we can all learn from each other. I know no child is perfect and I will come

across some obstacles with behavior, but as far as behavior I just recently learned the

difference between discipline and punishment. Punishment is punishing children for their

behaviors, and discipline is teaching students to make good choices. I plan on focusing on

discipline with my students rather than punishment to help them be successful.

I believe I have so much to offer as a teacher. I am patient, I am passionate, I am kind, I

have great communication skills, I adapt to anything very well, I am very enthusiastic, I am a

great listener and I love to learn from others. Those are just a few qualities I can bring to the

table once I become an educator and I still have so much more to offer. On top of all the

volunteer experience I have, I am in the process to receive my substitute license. A long with

my education courses I am taking to receive my degree in Elementary Education, I have created

a step ladder to achieve my goals. My personal step ladder is volunteering at schools,

substituting at schools, and my final step is to become a teacher.

Overall, I am beyond delighted to become a teacher and make a difference in my future

student’s lives. I am grateful the universe put me where I am right now in my life. I cannot wait

for my final destination as a teacher but I am also embracing the journey to my destination. My

education course and completing my field observation has made me feel even more excited

about my career.
