6 Instructional Design Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of research-based best

practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and

technology-enhanced learning experiences.

For the Online OLE Grid Unit Module, I designed a four-week unit plan that center

around our Dystopian Unit. Creating this unit plan required me to research a variety of practices

in instructional design to develop digital tools and resources to facilitate a technology-enhanced

learning experience. In this unit, students moved through a Prezi presentation to learn more about

how Dystopian worlds are created and controlled. They completed notes individually and

submitted them via Google Forms. the y participated in book clubs, moved through various

online assessments, and collaborated with peers to create an adobe spark video showcasing the

dystopian societies they created. The goal of this assignment was to create a unit plan where

students used research based strategies and online tools to complete through scaffolded lessons. I

worked independently to research new strategies, practices, and online tools that I felt would

help my students as they completed the unit.

This artifact indicates my mastery of the standard by demonstrating my ability to develop

a lesson using the best researched based practices to develop online tools for students to use so

they are better able to experience technology enhanced lessons. During this lesson, I

incorporated researched-based practices based on my class demographics and needs. I researched

technology tools and programs and incorporated them into my lesson, based on their ability to

help my students as they moved through the lesson. All notes, work sheets, and graphic

organizers ware posted on our Google Classroom and in student’s Google Drive. According to

the research I conducted, I found that the providing students with a central location for all their
information helps students become more confident in their ability to complete their work

independently. Students know where to go to review their work when they feel it’s needed. They

also know where to go to complete their work, which saves automatically as they compete it. I

also researched online tools and decided to incorporate the Google extension, Read and Write.

This extension allowed students to translate unfamiliar words by paring them with like pictures

and synonyms. It also allowed them to highlight the text they need to remember or found

important. For my English as Second Language (ESL) students, it translates text into a variety of

languages and allows texts to be read out loud to students.

As I completed this unit plan, I learned about several new researched-based strategies and

online tools that I can incorporate into my lessons. I also had to research the best was to

implement these tools and practices into my lessons in way that was fitting for my student

demographics and learning styles. From this, I not only learned about new tools to use in my

lessons but also new ways to implement them in my classroom. I learned more about varied

instruction and creating a lesson with standard based research in mind. I learned about Read and

Write, which I now use all the time. The Read and Write tool is a Google Chrome Extension that

This extension allows students to translate unfamiliar words by paring them with like pictures

and synonyms. It allows them to highlight text they need to remember or find important. It also

translates text into a variety of languages and allows texts to be read out loud to students.

Because this assignment was creating a unit plan, I don’t feel as though there needs to be

any massive changes made. However, I a small change I would make would be to incorporate the

book club portion of this unit earlier in the lesson and have its extent until the end of the unit. In

hindsight, I included the book club almost randomly at week two but it’s an intracial part of this

particular unit.
The impact of this unit plan can be seen in my stuydent’s ability to work independently

more efficiently. They learned new time management skills and figured out what works best for

them. Students were impacted by gaining the ability to better assess what skills andoracted

helped them the most throufghut this lesson. My ESL students’ success was greatly impacted by

the online tools. After seeing how easily my students took to these new tools, I shaed them with

my coworkers and they also began implementing them in their classrooms. This impacted facility

developemnt in a positive way and was even given to other Warer RPbins MIddle School’s

facility and staff who use this device to communicate with students ans their parwents who they

would otherwise not be able to communicate with.
