Background Information
• The Hershey Company is an American confectionary manufacturer best known for its
chocolate, non-chocolate and snack products around the world.
• It has over 16,880 employees and 90+ brands.
• The company has plant locations in the United States, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan,
Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.
• The company is guided by its vision to become “an innovative snacking powerhouse.”

Company History
• In 1894, Milton Hershey founded the Lancaster Caramel Company, with the Hershey
Chocolate Company as a subsidiary.
• In 1900, the production of Hershey’s milk chocolate bars began, and Hershey made the
decision to sell the LCC to focus on the development of the Hershey Company.
• In 1927, the company became publicly traded (HSY).
• In 1973, Hershey’s Chocolate World opened, the company’s first retail center.
• In 1996, the Hershey Company acquired Leaf, Inc. and began its expansion into non-
chocolate candies and snacks.
• In 2008, the company reached $5 billion in sales.
• Michele Buck has been the CEO, chairman and president of the company since 2017.

• In response to the Black Lives Matter movement and rise of systemic racism in the
United States during 2020, the company worked with diverse groups of employees to
refresh its DEI strategy. This led to the development of The Pathways Project, a five-year
plan to help the company create more pathways to join, reach out and grow.

requiring that interviewers and the portfolio of candidates are 50% diverse. It has
also expanded its remote opportunities to ensure everyone, no matter their

communities. It has increased its efforts to improve access to education in
