How language barriers can affect communication in the workplace

Abstract:

Communication is the ability to convey information. More specifically, we may define communication as
the transmission and reception of ideas, feelings and attitudes that produce a response. Today we rely
on excellent and efficient communication to make life run smoothly. However, sometimes it is
challenging to enhance excellent communication between one another due to barriers that hinder
information flow. These communication barriers can be due to language differences, environmental
factors, and gender and cultural factors. Address this, it requires establishing excellent and efficient
verbal communication and developing a suitable environment free from external disturbances. This
study aims to review other empirical studies that reveal the causes of communication barriers and
address strategies that can be applied to break the blockade.

The purpose of this study is to assess the nature and type of communication between doctors and nurses, as well
as the workflow arrangements between them, according to Brady et al. (2017), active communication and
workflow arrangement between doctors and nurses are critical for decreasing hazards in hospitals, especially
during our era.
This research was conducted in an acute referral hospital in Ireland. The study included twenty-seven participants,
including junior and senior nursing professionals who were personally interviewed, the greatest barrier to
communication between nurses and doctors, according to the findings of this study, was insufficient technology
methods for transmitting communications. Enhancing technology to promote communication between people is
part of improving communication tactics. The message transmission will be more efficient and faster as a result of
improved communication, which will improve workflow .

This study focuses on the effects of communication barriers on the student’s team. The primary goal of
this research was to examine the interrelationship of communication barriers, which have received less
attention in shaping team creativity.
This study's primary respondents were forty undergraduate students. This experimental study's data
was analyzed using factor analysis and structural equation modelling. It discovered that communication
barriers have a negative impact on emotional ties and knowledge sharing during the early stages of
teamwork (Chen & Agrawal, 2017).
Furthermore, this study revealed that team leaders must focus on communication as well as convalesce
it. It also highlights that team learning is a potential precursor to instigate student's creative minds.
This journal has been of great help in this research study because it has revealed the effects of
communication barriers on the student's team. It is revealed from the article that communication
barriers harm knowledge sharing as well as strong ties at the initial stages of teamwork. To overcome
these barriers, this article states that "early leadership overcomes the deleterious effects of
communication barriers by focusing on team communication”.

This study focuses on the language barriers which take place when your business is growing worldwide, whereas
Cultural diversity plays an important role in this regard. Understanding cultural diversity is the key to effective
business in cross-cultural communications, it shapes the business in the international markets. It presents a fine
opportunity to respect the culture to foster global peace and prosperity.
 This article shares knowledge on different factors which effects the communications, Misunderstanding is the
foremost an important barrier, it could cause anxiety and uncertainty among the individuals. This study also talks
about how people fail to understand the diversity in their workplace and act accordingly, this further leads to
anxiety and the communication process is interrupted.  Cross-cultural beliefs and values should be known to every
person. Inadequate information about the people leads to unintelligent choices in cross-cultural communication.

The reason for using this article was to talk about the diversity in the workplace, how communication is the
interrupted amount the individuals and because of what factors, this study reveals some methods to overcome
such barriers, A cross-cultural knowledge training should be provided in every multinational organization

This will make them aware of cross-cultural communication in the workplace, in addition, there should be language
training as well and Organizations should insist on mutual benefits for all the cultures in the workplace.

Organizations should focus on establishing a new enterprise culture. A universally accepted culture in which one
understands the other person’s values and beliefs and respects them.

Language Conversation.

This study focuses on poor language proficiency, especially among English language students based on
conversational skills. According to the article, one of the causes of communication barriers among students is a
fear of making mistakes.

 A descriptive research study was carried out to identify various elements that cause communication barriers,
particularly among students, as well as to address effective solutions aimed at reducing communication difficulties.
This research study was conducted at Saudi Arabia's King Khaled Military Academy (Mofareh 2019). The
information was gathered through the random distribution of questionnaires to teachers and students. According
to the findings of this study, many students are unable to speak English correctly and confidently. Weakness in
grammar, and difficulties in pronunciation are some of the causes of communication barriers.

The main reason for using this article is to reveal why many students may fail to speak in English. This journal
states that “general weakness in English grammar, vocabulary, syntax, poor fluency in speech, low understanding
of overall grammar frameworks, and inaccurate pronunciation.

 To overcome these barriers, the article has revealed the significance of ensuring there are appropriate English
teaching methods, which will help improve students' grammar and pronunciation so that the students can speak
confidently.

This article's focus is to evaluate the communication barriers in project management interactions in commercial

enterprises. According to the report, distortion and loss of information and lack of efficient communication flow

channels are the leading causes of communication in enterprise projects. Project managers were used in the

collection of primary data by administering questionnaires and personal interviews. The results of this study reveal

that "lack of enough time as well as high workload with current problems" may result in message distortion, which

may lead to communication barriers. Moreover, information overloads and unsatisfactory organisation structures

are barriers to effective communication in an organization, including in project management. A model of

communication management process was developed to reduce the obstacles to communication in project

management,

The aim of using this article in this study is to identify barriers to communication that may exist in the Project
interaction of commercial enterprise. Effective communication plays a fundamental role in the success of any
organizational project. The article reveals that "It is proved that distortion of messages, information overloads and
unsatisfactory structure of the organization are barriers to effective organizational communications, including in
project management.  The model of communication developed from the study helps minimize distortion of
messages and reduce information overloads, resulting in reduced communication barriers.
