Implementing a Facial Skincare Routine

As it has been more visible throughout the world, especially for teenagers, facial acne is

an issue that has impacted many people in negative ways. Dermatological issues can occur to a

variety of people, and contrary to many beliefs, they are not only a basic cosmetology problem.

Dermatological problems, which are inevitable, happen to people because of their tedious

lifestyle, hormonal activities, and sometimes because of family inheritance. To illustrate,

teenagers are most susceptible to suffering from facial acne because they are in a stage where

their hormones are more “unstable,” and because of certain stressors, such as school and family

problems. Facial acne, as described, is something that can be treated through the use of facial

skincare products. As the primary subject of a one-week experiment in which a facial skincare

routine was implemented, it can be said that the activity was full of cosmetological benefits, and

needed knowledge on what skincare products are made of, the effects of these products, and the

whole process of adapting oneself to the routine itself.

To begin with, the first thing that someone who wants to start utilizing skin care products

should do is to learn about different skincare products. Not only that, but people should also visit

a dermatologist, before even trying to apply anything on their skin. For more context, a

dermatologist is the type of doctor that focuses and deals with people’s skin, nails, and hair. It is

important for people to talk to a dermatologist, because they are the only ones that are educated

on what treatment to give people, depending on their kind of skin and problems. However, doing

personal research on different skin products is also extremely important. More into detail, a

person who is going to start a skincare routine could research based on what most skincare

products are made of. For instance, according to Jamal and Rani, the majority of cosmetic

ingredients are byproducts of plants and animals, as well as inorganic and synthetic chemicals

(31). Particularly, one of the cosmetic products that might sound familiar to most of the people,

which is an animal derivative, are essential oils (Jamal and Rani 32). Essential oils, like

eucalyptus oil and lavender oil, are mostly utilized to make one’s skin shiny, fresh, and for

aromatherapy (Jamal and Rani 32). Nonetheless, even though essential oils seem like a perfect

item for everyone’s skin, it is important that whoever is going to use it learns about them, as it

could be dangerous for their skin.

To continue, before utilizing skincare products, it is important to consider the side effects

they might bring, as well as the reasons why they are used. Generally, everyone uses facial

skincare products in order to better the condition of their face, and get rid of acne. Nevertheless,

different people may have more specific motivations for adopting a facial skin care routine. To

illustrate, Putranto mentions that “physical appearance is a means of showing the personality,

freedom, convictions, and self-confidence of this modern life” (38). What this means is that

nowadays, the way people’s bodies look is a way of showing freedom, goals, and confidence,

without the need to use of words or public actions. Even though these points might sound like

amazing motivations to adopt a facial skincare routine, there might be some side effects to it. To

create a picture, many men are currently susceptible to negative criticism just by the use of any

cosmetic product, but why? Well, society has certain types of stereotypes about cosmetic

products, and one of them is that men should not use them. For people, men should not use

cosmetic products, as they see them as products meant to be for women (Putranto et al. 38). Not

only that, but these ways of thinking can also lead to violent sexism, which can impact a men’s

mental health. Violent sexism, and sometimes derogatory, such as “metrosexual,” names given to

men, are just some examples of why everyone should consider not only the good side of

implementing a facial skincare into their daily activities, but the bad side as well.

Furthermore, adopting a facial skincare at morning and night, apart from obtaining

fundamental information, does require people to prepare and review the whole process in order

to be able to study and look at the results of such activity. For example, the first thing that

someone needs to do in order to implement a facial skincare routine into their lives is to go to a

dermatologist. Once that is done, the person following the skincare routine should get access to

the products they need. To illustrate, if whoever is doing the mentioned activity is required to

buy Vitamin E, fruit oils, and ginseng, all in given quantities, it is important for them to try and

buy exactly what they were told to, as alterations in these products could create negative results.

Once everything that is needed is obtained, or bought, the subject of the experiment should

prepare to start the actual experiment . That said, one of the steps that the subject of the

experiment could follow in order to prepare themselves for the experiment is to “talk to

themselves,” and accept the fact that the benefits taken out of it depend on their own discipline.

What the term “talk to themselves” means, is for them to tell themselves how serious this

“experiment” is. When the person is mentally ready to start the experiment, the next step is to

start including the facial skincare into their daily schedule. As easy as it might sound, this can

present a series of difficulties to many people, as it implies waking up earlier, for the morning

part of the routine, and maybe sleeping a little bit later than usual, for the night part of the

routine.

Moreover, after one week, the experiment was over, and as expected, there were some

visible differences. The first consequence that was observed from the subject of this experiment

were mood swings. As recorded, the implemented facial skincare routine modified the subject’s

attitude, which gained more confidence, and willingness to express themselves. More than that,

during the experiment, skin appearance also evolved. At the beginning of the activity, the subject

showed multiple kinds of facial acne, such as pimples, blackheads, and red marks. On the other

extreme, the subject of the experiment reported, and exhibited, a better facial skin situation. This

was shown through the diminution of acne marks, pimples, blackheads, open pores, irritation,

and facial dryness.

In conclusion, implementing facial skincare every night and morning can be something

difficult. Before even using a facial skincare routine, it is important for the user to be inform

about what products they are about to use. However, it is also important for people to know that

utilizing a facial skincare routine will not be as easy as it sounds, and might present them with

serious challenges. All in all, while adopting a facial skincare routine might present their users

with a series of challenges, it is true that it will also present challenges such as the effects of the

products being used, the need to absorb knowledge, and the whole process of oneself adapting to

using a facial skincare routine.
