Essay 3 Reflection Essay

Writing nowadays should be seen as a circular process that allows authors to apply many

ways of thinking into their assignments or pieces of work. Because it is a circular process,

writing is beneficial for authors because it makes their writing stronger, more fluid, and more

structured. However, writing does not help people out of nowhere, meaning that authors also

have to try their best to help the writing process just as the writing process is trying to help them.

To be more specific, the writing process can help people because it gives them the opportunity to

decide what knowledge to apply or not to apply when writing new papers or taking other

subjects, create arguments, analyze themselves as a writer, and take into consideration what

writing tasks are challenging for them.

To begin with, every writing experience gives authors the opportunity to decide what

knowledge can or cannot be applied into their assignments or tasks. For example, something I

learned from Essay 1, which was experiment based, was to see everything with an open mind.

This point of view helped me write Essay 3 because I was able to take into consideration

multiple perspectives of my chosen argument and be aware that the side that I’m defending can

also be wrong to other people. Another writing experience that helped me write Essay 3 was

Essay 2, which was basically an information synthesis paper. Essay 2 helped me write Essay 3

because it taught me how to look for information quickly and in an effective manner.

Nevertheless, writing experiences can also give creators information that cannot be used in other

writing assignments. For instance, something that Essay 1 taught me and that was not useful

while writing Essay 3 was coming up with an experiment, as Essay 3 had nothing to do with an

experiment or whatsoever. Essay 2 also taught me how to write counter arguments, but that was

not helpful in Essay 3 because no counter argument was needed throughout the essay at all.

Moreover, writing essays can also give people knowledge that can or cannot be applied

into other courses that they will be taking into the future. To illustrate, writing a position essay,

such as Essay 3, can give people better debating skills. More into detail, position essays can give

people the ability to choose a side of an argument and defend it while using facts, moral

techniques, and emotional techniques. These type of debates can happen in a history class, where

writing position essays can help debaters use any kind of appeal to convince people into thinking

that their side of the argument is correct. On the other hand, writing position papers can also give

people knowledge that cannot be applied into other classes. For instance, having the ability to

motivate an audience to agree with a side of a debate through a piece of paper is not helpful in a

mathematics class, where everything has to be proven with numbers, equations, statistics,

graphs, and more numerical data,

Furthermore, writing also teaches people how to improve as authors, as it teaches them

how to look at their writing weaknesses, strengths, and different arguments. The creation of an

argument can help writers, such as myself, improve their writing because it gives them the ability

to be aware of arguments. What this means is that the creation of an argument gives writers the

capacity to know that the information they use has to be factual, recent, and useful for their

assignments. Adding on to that, writing also gives people the ability to study their writing

weaknesses and strengths. For instance, some of the writing weaknesses that persist in some

authors is not knowing how to start an introduction, or not knowing how to formulate a thesis.

These weaknesses tend to persist in authors because they are related to their insecurities,

meaning that people, like myself, tend to have them because they are afraid to mess up or do it

wrong. On the other hand, some writing strengths that gladly persist in authors, such as me, is

knowing how to structure an essay and how to organize it so that it reaches the audience in a

more meaningful way.

In conclusion, writing is a process that can be seen in multiple ways, and that can be

extremely helpful for students, and any other kind of authors. To give an example, one of the

ways in which I tend to see my essays is depending on the challenges. What this means is that I

normally decide to do the “easiest” challenges of the essay first, such as choosing a topic or

choosing an argument stance, and then the “hardest” challenges, such as finding good sources or

staying in track with recent information. Another challenge of writing is being ready for

comments. Even though comments are not within the writing itself, it is hard for writers,

including myself, to receive feedback because of many insecurities and second thoughts.

However, I believe that my essay 3, or my position essay, will receive good comments and

feedback, especially because I received help from great writers. All in all, no matter what

challenges writing presents, it is assured that authors will always gain something out of their

writing, such as the ability to receive and organize knowledge, create arguments, study

themselves as writers, and view challenges not as enemies, but as teachers.
