How do Oranges help our Immune System?

Introduction In the article

"A Review On Sweet Oranges (Citrus Sinensis L Osbeck): Health, Disease, And

Management'' The American Journal of Research Communication, oranges are snacked on all

over the world, being an "excellent source of vitamin C." It contains Vitamin C and hesperidin

flavonoid, polyphenols, pectin, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and thiamine, which is Vitamin

B1. Helping prevent all sorts of human health problems. Many diseases can be controlled by

treating this specific fruit.

Experiment

The experiment involved the subject eating 6 oranges a day for ten days. Before each

meal, the subject would eat two oranges alone before a meal; after 5 minutes, the subject would

eat. In "The Orange '' by Glenn King, oranges provide a total amount of calories of 85 and a large

portion of sugars being 17g. Although it does help with the immune system, an excess amount

can create an imbalance in the subject.

Day One to Two

Flores 2
The first day was a bit hard on the subject, she had no inconvenience eating the two

oranges before breakfast, but she did have to start her day earlier than usual. Changing the

routine for the subject was very difficult because although she enjoyed sleeping in, she knew she

had to change her route to keep up with the experiment. Lunch was much easier on the subject,

and so was dinner.

The second day was a little less challenging, the subject already had waking up earlier

than usual in mind, but she did have to make sure she could fit the experiment into that day's

schedule. Once lunch came around, the subject did have a stomach ache. According to the article

written by E.Etebu and A.B Nwauzoma, "The alkaline properties in the orange stimulate the

digestive juices ."Having the subject eat more oranges than usual, the oranges triggered a

cleaning in her digestive system and allowed any toxins to leave her body. She changed her

schedule and route, but she also changed her diet, only eating healthy food. She stopped eating

any junk food and sweets, allowing the orange to do its job of cleaning any toxins that are

harmful to the body.

Day Three to Seven Days

Three was very convenient to the subject. It being the weekend allowed her to rest.

Although she did wake up early to keep up with the experiment, she did not have to change any

route." I usually wake up around nine to get ready for class. However, I have been waking up at

eight-thirty, so I would be able to go eat breakfast and continue the experiment" (Flores). The

oranges were still working on her body to release any toxin, but she felt more energetic and

healthier apart from everything else.

Day four was most of the same. The experiment pretty much cleaned her body of any

toxin. "I finally do not feel like going to the bathroom anymore at any minute, haha" (Flores).
Flores 3
She did feel her face more soft and smooth with a more pinkish look to her cheeks, and she

thought she had more energy and had a more productive day, but apart from that, everything else

was the same. On day five, the subject did go out to eat to celebrate valentine. She suspected that

her body would have an imbalance to it the next day, supposing that the oranges would once

again clean and any toxin in her body the next few days. Her day did not change much apart

from dinner. She kept up with her healthy diet even throughout dinner.

Day six and seven were ordinary days. The subject felt more energetic. She still felt that

her face was much softer and cleaner, and she still had a pinkish look to her cheeks. "I have more

energy than normal, I do not feel exhausted throughout the day, and my skin looks much

healthier than normal" (Flores). Her body was clearing itself out again, but everything else was

the same.

Day eight and nine were no different. The subject slept much more than average. She felt

very energetic and healthy. The subject did start her menstrual cycle, but it did not affect her like

it usually does." Usually I am not able to do much during my period. However, I think it's

because of all the oranges that I am eating. Because I am not eating junk food it has helped"

(Flores). She did not experience as many symptoms as she usually does. She felt that the oranges

were creating a more productive, joyous health day. Her change in diet helped her body keep up

with the orange diet. Her body was still clearing out from day five.

Last Day of Experiment

Day ten was eventful; not much changed. The subject did not have any symptoms from

her menstrual cycle. She felt healthy and productive." I feel like I get more done with the change

of life, I am more productive because I have more health energy than the energy of junk food"

(Flores). The experiment was an accomplishment, and the subject had positive results. She is

happy with how the experiment has helped out her body. She hopes to continue eating oranges

throughout her day.

Conclusion

The subject will not know how exactly the oranges have helped her immune system. If

the subject were to keep up with this diet for as long as she wished, she would probably start

noticing many changes in her body. Because the orange provides many compounds and helps

prevent many diseases, it could help keep certain control in her body in many different ways, but

there is no way of knowing unless some blood test panel is taken. Nevertheless, the experiment

did help prove many theories, such as how it helps the skin, what is something that the orange

helps immediately, and How does the subject change once the experiment starts?. For now, it can

be assumed that having a healthy diet along side fruits allows for a much more positive day to

the experiment results.
