Financial Aid Reflection

1. Federal Financial Aid- What are the different types of federal financial aid available to
students? How do you apply for federal financial aid? What benefits do students receive from
this type of financial aid?

The different types of federal financial aid are loans, work-study funds, and grants. To
apply you need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Benefits
are the expenses of books, tuition, supplies, and transportation.

2. State Financial Aid- What are the different types of state aid available to students? How do
you apply for state financial aid? What benefits do students receive from this type of financial
aid?

The types of state financial aid that are available are grants, tuition assistance,
scholarships, work-study funds, and state loans. To apply for state financial aid you need to
also file the Free Application for the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The benefit of state
financial aid is the award that is given to the student; up to $3,000 per year.

3. School Specific Financial Aid- Which schools did you research? Describe one grant or
scholarship that is offered at each school. What benefits do students receive from this type of
financial aid?

The schools are Miramar College and Grossmont College. Miramar College has grants and
loans, while Grossmont college has scholarships and grants. The benefits of the financial
aid are the loans, reduction of fees, and awards that you get to buy school supplies.

4. Private Scholarships- Describe two scholarships that you found interesting during your
research. What are the benefits of using this type of aid to fund your education?

The two scholarships that I found interesting were the grants that you are awarded that
you don’t need to pay back and work-study that we can earn money to help to pay for
school. The benefits are that you don’t have debt after graduating, and you can get a good
education for a reasonable price.

5. Military Financial Aid- Do you or your family plan to or have served in the military? If so,
describe at least one military financial aid program that is available to you? What benefits do
students receive from this type of financial aid?

I do not have family in the military and I do not plan on joining. However, military families
have the financial aid that helps them pay for books and supplies ($1,000 a year), tuition
and fees, and living stipend.

6. Personal Financial Aid Plan- After reviewing the different types of financial aid available to
students, what plan do you have for covering the costs of post-secondary education? Write a
paragraph that summarizes the total cost you expect to pay for post-secondary education, the
sources of aid you plan to use to cover these costs, and when and how you plan to apply for each
program. You may also need to consider alternate sources of income such as a college fund or
savings plan that has already been set aside.

I plan to use the San Diego Promise Program. This enables me to two free years of college
tuition, which will help me pass through the first years of college. I will also apply for a
college scholarship, and maybe a grant that can help me with books and other supplies. I
plan to apply to them before entering the chosen college. For the alternate sources of
income, it will be from my work.
