Essay One Reflection

There was a period where during English 1301 where our professor focused on helping us

write essays without mentioning ourselves. Such as I, me, us, or any first-person pronouns. This

was quite helpful during this essay since we had to write a 1,000-word essay without mentioning

ourselves. The reason this made it so difficult was because we had to write about ourselves,

without mentioning ourselves, which you can imagen was quite a task to overcome. But thanks

to our focus last semester on this specific lesson, all the students were able to manage, and

complete their essays.

When it came to learning how to use apostrophes in and out of my English 1301 class,

this was not appliable. Not only because in this assignment, it was not allowed, but also because

it was not applicable. In other words, they were unnecessary to be used. Since the entire essay

was more of a research experiment rather than a story, there was no need for the apostrophes to

be used.

In this essay, us students were able to practice on not using first- person pronouns for an

excessive amount of time. This was a good thing, because it allowed us to become more

comfortable when it comes to writing these types of essays. Such as experimental essay when we

must talk about ourselves, without using first-person pronouns. Now that we are more

comfortable with this type of writing, whenever another similar assignment comes up, we will

not be blind sighted by the instruction on how we must write it.

Although it was great practice being able to write without first person pronouns in this

essay, it is rare that we do these types of assignment. Therefore, I doubt that it will be constantly

asked for us to write a similar essay like these. But, the essay we wrote will include at least one

of the two types of writing we hat to include. The two types of writings that we might write,

separately, will be either, experiments and journalisms, or self-writing essays where we must talk

about ourselves and are allowed to include first person pronouns.

With the two-outside research, including a similar experiment and a gathering of

information, it allowed me to talk about my findings with comfort, since in the outside research,

similar findings were found. Giving me a clear view that the findings on my experiment could be

backed up. Also, this gave the audience an assumption where they can conclude that my research

was well done, since the results were similar.

After receiving my peer review comments, I noticed that it was towards the beginning of

the essay where I struggled the most to express what I was talking about. This is critical because

they are usually the hooks, and the topic sentences. From others who read my essay, they

commented on how my strengths are usually towards the center of the essay, making my body

paragraphs the best out of the entire essay. This was because my peers said that I do not lack

“empathy and poeticisms” when it came to writing. The weaknesses ive had them coming

because I have always had trouble when it came to starting my essays, but my strengths I have

never heard anyone mention that in specific until now. I believe this was because of the type of

essay we were supposed to write since I have never written an essay like this before.

The most challenging thing when it came to doing this essay was going thought with the

entire experiment. I have never done something like this in my life before, but once a friend said

that I should try talking to others and see what happens, because in the end, there is nothing to

lose. Thankfully I’ve listened, and I’ve met people id never thought id ever talk to. This

experiment will not finished, because I plan on continuing it, until I no longer can.
