Facilitate Learning
Nurse educators facilitate learning environments for their students. The learning

environment is critical to a nursing student’s ability to take care of patients. The process of

learning to be an educator comes with the tools to create an effective learning environment. So

far, I have learned the importance of setting student objectives, identifying learning styles, and

organizing a curriculum. There is more to facilitating an environment for learning than meets the

eye.

It can be challenging to learn how to facilitate learning in a classroom or clinical setting. I

believe that the educator must be willing to be patient and respectfully teach students. That being

said, the task statement that states the nursing educator incorporating personal attributes to

facilitate learning resonated with me. I hope to be a nursing educator that does this. I want my

students to see patience, respect, and confidence, to name a few. It is so important that while in

the clinical setting, students see nurses who have these attributes. Nursing students are very

impressionable, so it is essential to display these qualities to help them learn. The goal of

implementing personal characteristics into the learning environment is to show the students the

human side of the profession. It is necessary to remember that the patients are human with the

same attributes that are being taught.

Another task statement that I hope to incorporate into a learning environment would be to

serve as a role model of professional nursing. This goes along with the previous task statement

because it displays personal attributes. This task statement will be helpful to create a learning

environment that guides students to be professional through the educator’s example. This will be

accomplished by maintaining professionalism in all aspects of learning. Students will be looking

at their educator as an example. It will be important to be respectful to patients, students, and

nurses alike. It will also be helpful to maintain a trusting relationship with the students to allow

them to grow in the profession.
