Dear Employees,

Thank you for everyone’s dedication to this company. We have made tremendous progress as watchdogs,
stewards, and defenders of clean water within our community. This year Charleston Waterkeeper wants to
focus on recruiting outside resources, specifically funding and volunteers. As employees of this organization,
it is crucial to collaborate to gather the necessary tools and people needed to continue our existing projects.

As a company, we have run out of funds and resources to continue the existing projects. The waterways of
Charleston will face serious repercussions and we will lose progress that we have worked so hard to make. Without
our organization, the ocean is threatened with more pollution and endangerment of humans and marine life.

To discuss strategies, create a plan, and track progress, “Recruitment Workshops” will be implemented every
Friday at 8am beginning this week. This will be a meeting for us to discuss what changes need to be made and
how we will work together to get the company on track. After each meeting, each team member will be provided an
assignment to work on for the rest of the week. The next meeting will begin with a recap on individual progress. A
key factor to alleviate this problem is to enlist volunteers and funding. Resources have been provided
containing tips and tricks to help navigate through this process.

Below are a few resources that provide ideas on how to advertise, recruit, and manage volunteers and
funders. We hope to implement many of these practices into our workshops.

Charleston Waterkeeper is a charitable organization that depends on the generosity of the community
members and volunteers to protect and restore the waterways in Charleston for future generations. Among
the many projects organized by Charleston Waterkeeper, a few are lacking in funding and volunteers to
continue. It is critical that the organization steps in to seek out more resources before other projects
experience the same problem. The best solution is to implement weekly workshops where all employees
unite to recruit volunteers, donors, and funds to support the projects of Charleston Waterkeeper.

Summary
The city of Charleston has an overall population of 135,257 people with an average of 7.3 million tourists
each year. The tourist industry generates $7 billion in economic impact. The city of Charleston is known
for its beautiful water. Tourist numbers would decrease if the surrounding water became polluted and
dangerous to swim in. Seafood restaurants depend on local marine life to make a profit. Charleston
Waterkeeper works to maintain the water to allow the locals and tourists to swim, fish, and eat safely.

Why are more resources necessary?

The release of untreated sewage from boats risks the spread of communicable disease, the ability to swim,
and the harvest of shellfish from the waterways. As of February 1 st 2022, the mobile pump out service
was suspended until further noticed because of the spike in gas prices. The Environmental Education
program works to cultivate a community of informed citizens to ensure the future of waterways is in good
hands. Volunteers run a range of events tailored to engage and inspire youth to be effective waterway
stewards including outreach events, summer camps, and schools. Without the necessary funding and
volunteers, these programs would not be able to continue.

What types of resources are needed?

Charleston Waterkeeper is known for working hard to use sustainable resources to solve the ocean
pollution crisis and educate the public. We need more volunteers and funding to continue this mission.
Volunteers can range in age, gender, and educational level. No skill is required to assist on any of our
projects although some require heavy lifting. Even children, temporary disabled, and pregnant can
volunteer to work on our staff. Volunteer positions range from organizing teams and directing suppliers to
running equipment and gathering litter from waterways.

Recommendation
As a company, Charleston Waterkeeper needs to work together to seek out these resources. Recruitment
workshops are a beneficial strategy for all employees to gather and brainstorm ways to advertise our
mission to the public. This will be a meeting for us to discuss what changes need to be made and how we
will work together to get the company on track. After each meeting, each team member will be provided
an assignment to work on for the rest of the week. Assignments include contacting local, state, and
national authorities and organizations to collaborate with, fundraising projects with locals, and reaching
out to business to seek funding. The next meeting will begin with a recap on individual progress. A key
factor to alleviate this problem is to enlist volunteers and funding. Resources have been provided
