Experiment # 3
THREE PHASE CIRCUITS AND POWER MEASUREMENTS

Section: 2075

NAME ID
Salamah Abdulwali Alsharari 381011880

Experiment conducted on: 24/2/2021

Report submitted on: 10/3/2021
Objectives:

1-To connect the three-phase loads as wye (Y) and delta (Δ) connections.

2-To measure the power in three-phase circuits.

3-To determine the power factor of three-phase circuits.

Apparatus:
1 AC power supply 400V.
1 Resistive load.
1 inductive load.
1 capacitive load.
1 set of 10 safety connectors, black.
1 set of 10 safety connectors, green/yellow.
1 set of 32 safety experiment cables.
1 set of 10 safety experiment cables, green/yellow.

Y-Connection, Inductive Load
Connect the three phase Y-connected inductive load as shown in Figure 2
please follow the following steps carefully:

Y-Connected Inductive Load:

In a Y-connected system, there may or may not be a neutral wire attached at the junction
point in the middle, although it certainly helps alleviate potential problems should one
element of a three-phase load fail open.

conclusion :

We know how to connect three-phase loads as wye(Y) and delta connections.

in three - phase ac systems are considered as a balanced circuit, made up of a balanced
three phase source, a balanced line, and a balanced three - phase load. The star - delta
(Y - A) or delta - star (4 - Y) conversion is required in three - phase ac systems to
simplify the circuits and ease their analysis. ► If a three - phase supply or a three -
phase load is connected in delta, it can be transformed into an equivalent star -
connected supply or load. After the analysis, the results are converted back into their
original delta equivalent.
