Question 5

Scenario 1

If the diameter of the pipe is reduced, the running fluid may be compressed as it passes through

the pipe and out the other end. It moves more quickly, which raises the rate of flow. Moreover,

as the diameter of the pipe grows, the flow rate decreases. A part of the solution is that, as the

diameter increases, the velocity of the fluid parcels flowing through the pipe must decrease as

well. Because of this, the downstream force going backwards must be higher than the

downstream force pushing forwards (downstream pressure multiplied by area) (upstream

pressure times area). In general, the wider the diameter of a pipe, the greater the water flow. The

amount of water pressure, on the other hand, must constantly be taken into mind. Unless the

water pressure is high enough to overcome the force of friction, even the largest and smoothest

pipes will fail to provide efficient water flow when the water pressure is too low.

Scenario 2

Polyvinyl Chloride is a long-lasting material that may endure for up to 70 years or more.

Because cast iron pipes decay as a result of oxidation, it is costly to replace them. PVC is a

cleaner material since it does not corrode or rust, thus there will be no metal contamination of the

sewage or drinking water pipes. Plastic is a non-toxic material that is safe to use for all types of

plumbing applications. It is also far less expensive than most metal pipes. Despite the seeming

advantages of plastic over metal, there is one thing something plastic will never have over metal:

it will never survive as long as metal. Furthermore, although it is capable of withstanding a great

deal of heat, it is not like as heat resilient as something like steel.

Scenario 3

Pressure is expressed as "head" in this manner, allowing the pump curve to be applied to any
3

liquid, irrespective of its density. Because the head is efficiently lowered when we cut holes

inside the discharge pipe, the pump's capacity continuously increases as the holes are made at

lower levels in the discharge pipe.
