Basic Trilogy Stitch Hat

Materials:
• Worsted weight yarn: 200 yards
• US H-8/5.00mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain
gauge
• Yarn Needle, Scissors, Measuring Tape

Size:
22” circumference
Gauge:
16 dc in back loops = 4”, 8 Rows = 4”
Abbreviations:
ch(s) = chain(s)
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
Pattern notes:
Work in the back loops only starting with Row 2.
This pattern is worked from side-to-side.
For a custom fit, the width at the dc edge should be 2 inches less than the circumference of the head.

Pattern:
Ch 46 loosely.

Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in the second chain from hook, dc in next 29 chs, hdc in next 5 chs, sc in next 5 chs, sl
st in last 5 chs. Ch 1, turn. [45 sts]
Row 2: Working in back loops only, sl st in the first 5 sl sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in last 30 sts.
Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Working in back loops only, dc in the first 30 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 5 sts, sl st in last 5 sts.
Ch 1, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the width of the piece at the dc edge is 22 inches, or two inches less than the
desired head circumference, ending after a repeat of row 2. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Finishing
Sew side seam, working through the unworked side of the foundation ch and the back loop of the last row.
At top of hat secure seam. Use the yarn needle to catch the top of each row; gather tightly and secure.
Weave in ends.
