Introduction
Scope of work
Objective:
– Compare Downlink LTE link level inputs (simulation) and Lab tests curves in mono-user and
PA3 propagation channel; in order to highlight general trends

Lab inputs:
– UTRAN
UTRAN Nokia Siemens Network
UTAN Ericsson
UTRAN Alcatel-Lucent (LA2)
UTRAN HUAWEI
UTRAN ZTE
– UE
LTE Category 3 ( MIMO 2x2 )
Different models : SAMSUNG;LG; HUAWEI.
MIMO 2x2 with spatial mutiplexing is activated based on a switch (Default MIMO switching
is different upon each vendor) ; otherwise, Closed Loop Precoding Rank1 is used.

LTE link budget input

Remarks:
- Parameters configuration is equivalent between simulation and Lab tests.
- For Lab tests, 2 points to be noted: a) different implementations for UTRAN vendors may introduce
difference between performance; b) tests were not achieved with the same Ue model, so there are not
same receiver sensitivity/performance.

Environement Description

Lab Input SNR is the one measured at the UE receiver independently from the RS SINR. It
correspond to the ratio between the power level at the input of the mobile and the interference at
same point. The SNR of 2 antenna is combined to give an SNR Global.

Orange Simualtion SNR is given per antenna. It is then sufficient to add 3 dB to obtain the Global
SNR. Also the power used for the control channel is taken into account.

MMSE receiver is used in both Lab and simulated results ( MMSE SIC is also tested in the Orange
simulation).

Lab input are provide for 20 MHz bandwidth at 2600 MHz.

MHz.

Only Low correlation coefficient are tested based on 3GPP values.

values.

Closed Loop Precoding Rank 1 and 2 Transmission Mode is used

Reporting Mode is based on a WideBand precoding matrix.

General conclusion

⇒For Low SNR value (smaller than 10 dB) and Low correlation, we notice a good
convergence between Lab curves and Simu result. In this zone the spatial
multiplexing is generally deactivated, so only the rank 1 is considered.

⇒For High SNR value (greater than 10 dB) and Low correlation, the lab curve (ZTE)
and simu result have approximately the same shape until reaching the theoretical
peak data rate allowed by the category 3. In General, the Simu curve form an
envelope of the total vendor curves.

⇒We notice also a gap between the vendor results which are also UE depended.
This can be explained by the fact the vendor equipment (eNB or UE) are not until this
time mature or stable (Test Phase).
