Daily Lesson Plan Format

Name: Trinity Robertson Date(s) of Lesson: 5 of 15

Student Learning Objective(s) and Related Assessment(s):

Learning Target: Students will elevate their understanding of this week’s concept and
vocabulary by making connections between each of the words and concepts using a Tic
Tac Toe chart. This means students will not only be able to apply their vocabulary
knowledge in another assignment, but students will be able to re-engage with what
they’ve already learned as a way to review

Language Objective: Students will dive even further into this week’s vocabulary terms by
participating in a Tic Tac Toe activity to solidify their understanding of the words and
roots within them.

Standard(s):
Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases,
sufficient for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness
level; demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a
word or phrase important to comprehension or expression. (CCSS: L.11-12.6)

Materials/Resources:
Book club books
Notecards

Learning Activities:
Initiation:
- Students will do a brief rose, thorn, bud activity with their classmates to share a
thorn from their week and a rose from their week (5 Minutes)
Lesson Development: Reading Catch Up and Book Club Discussions
- Reading Catch Up: Students can use class time to catch up on their reading for
their book clubs. Students who are caught up on their reading may use this time to
do their independent reading or start working on their final assessment essay.
While students are doing their reading catch up, the teacher will be calling
students up individually to discuss their final project, the product they plan on
choosing, and what they need the teacher’s guidance on to complete their project
(30 Minutes)
- Book Club Discussions: Students will bring their sticky note annotations to guide
their book club discussions for today. Students are expected to write a minimum
of two sticky notes during their reading (submitted before class begins via a
picture upload on Google Classroom), and address at least one of their sticky note
annotations during discussion. While book club discussions occur, the teacher will
monitor and confer with students on their progress and depth of understanding of
their book (25 Minutes)
Closure: Tic Tac Toe and Week One Wrap Up
- Students will complete the Tic Tac Toe Vocabulary activity to wrap up vocab this
week. They will take their vocabulary they’ve been studying and working with
and align that vocabulary with the concepts and information they’ve learned this
week via a Tic Tac Toe Chart. Students can stretch their connections if they
choose, but they need to be able to explain it in a single sentence how one
concept/subject connects with their vocabulary term. Students are invited to dig
into the vocabulary roots to dive even further (25 Minutes)
- The teacher will wrap up with explaining what’s to come next week and asking
students to share with one other person one thing they’d learned in that class that
week (5 Minutes)
