LiTypes of digital devices

1.1.1 Mainframe computers are used by large organization for complex processing tasks such as
statistical analysis and bulk data processing.
Microprocessors are used to control washing machines, televisions and other household appliances.
1.1.2 Personal computers (P.) are common in homes and offices. They come in many different
shapes and sizes, such as desktops and laptops. Some laptops are used as Deslctop replacements.
1.1.3 There are 2 types of mobile phones; Smartphone and Specialist Phones.
1. Specialist Phones - These mobile phones have specialist
features to provide users with functions that meet particular user needs. For
example some phones have an emergency button which is linked to a l i s t o f
e merg enc y c o. ..
2. Smart Phones - Smart phones are small computers with WIFI
and mobile phone connectivity to allow them to make phone calls and access the
internet

1.1.4 Tab. devices are bigger than smart phones, but have similar features.
1.1.5 Digital Cameras and Camcorders use light sensors to capture images formed by the light
passing through the devices lens.
Game Consoles are designed to enable users to play video games on a television screen.
Home Entertainment Systems inducie :
1. Television - Television displays still and moving images in
a screen.
2. Smart Television - Uses apps and can download and stream
from the in te r ne t

3. Sound Systems - They produce loud and rich sound using

high quality speakers and amplifiers.
4. Personal Video Recorders (PVR) - A PVR is a device that
records broadcasted content so that it can be watched at a later date.
5. Blu-Ray & DVD Players - They connect to televisions in
order to play
films and other content that is stored on DVD or Blu-Ray disks.
Media Players - Media Players provide video and audio content to a television.
1.1.6 Navigation aids can calculate the best route between two or more locations and can provide
updates to the route if it is not followed accurately. Navigation aids use GPS satellites to determine
the exact location of the device on Earth.
1.1.7 Multifunctional device is a device that can perform a range of different hinctions. Example :
Smart Phone.

Convergence is when the designs of devices change so they become similar to one another.
Example : Smart Phones have Digital Cameras.
