3.5 Impact Of The Internet On Organizations


3.5.1. Impact of Less Restricted Access To Netwo.:
 Using social media and video streaming services have enabled
people to broadcast their own messages and interact with global audiences.
 User Generated websi. such as Wikipedia have challenged
societies ideas of expertise. This is because truth, Imowledge and accuracy are no
longer checked by a limited number of experts or editors. Instead ordinary people
can now put information that may or may not be true.
 The development of the Internet has created Billionaires.
 The development of the internet provides millions of
volunteers to work for free for good causes.
 The use of Internet has had an impact on law and
enforcement
 The Digital Humanitarian Movement - A group of people
working together to promote human welfare.
3.5.2. As a result of the growth of the interne, a divide has been created between people who have access
to online information, and people who don't. This gap is known as the Information Gap.
 People who are information rich have good access to the
internet
 People who are information poor have reduced access to
information.
 With Internet people have greater access to communication, news,
entertainment, goods, banking and other services like tax and
applications for driving license.
3.5.3. The Difference between those with technology and those without is known as Digital Divide. The
Peoples access to ICT can be affected by :
 Economy And infrastructure - Countries with advanced
economies can afford to invest in the infrastructure required to provide access to
networ. and the internet
 Location - People may not be able to access online systems in
remote locations.
 Polftics - Governments that want to cont. access to
information can either prevent or reduce access to the internet for their citizens.
 Religion - Some religions ban access to certain
technologies.
 Disability - If digital devices are designed to be inclusive,
people with disabilities can find accessing technology more difficult and may have to
rely on adaptations to be able to use ICT.
 Social Factors - Social factors such as Age, Gender, Education
and income will affect people's ability to access ICT.
