If I were to become a Manlilikha ng Bayan, the age-old or local custom that
I will be using that brings to our art and/or craft that will bring pride to our community and the country is our love for arts. Filipinos have a great passion for bringing art to the next level. We love to design creatively, think intuitively, and have a desire for anything different and unique. The art craft that I would use to transcend this age-old or local custom of ours is weaving. I want to promote the use of face masks made of weaving. Weaving is one of the main sources of living of the Ifugaos and Ilocanos in the northwestern Philippines. The Woven fabric with a tight weave can provide a partial barrier to virus-containing droplets. Due to the pandemic, the wearing of a face mask is already one of our basic needs to avoid the outbreak of COVID-19. That’s why a face mask made of weaving is a good idea, not only to protect us from viruses but also representing the traditional art of Ilocanos and Ifugaos which is weaving.
