TASK II: THE CONTEXT

It is generally known that organising the education system is becoming a relevant discussion these
days. Several concerns have been raised about how to deal with a classroom with students from
different backgrounds, ethnicities, ideologies, and capacities. So, what it can be done in order to
engage them?

First, it is to say that, in today’s globalised world, most teachers are struggling with teaching
vulnerable students because of their personal situation. This may lead to these students to not feel
quite engaged and integrated. For this reason, it is important that all teachers reflect on that and
try to find new models and strategies to engage every student in class. In fact, Brian Lozenski has
proposed an idea that should be taken into consideration. He suggested to modify, the traditional
model into a new model in which lessons can be taught in different spaces, topics are adapted to
the culture, to backgrounds and daily lives of the students or even to international issues. This can
be seen as an efficient idea for students to be completely engaged.

Besides, the traditional model has been proved not to work anymore. As people evolve, education
must do it too. We cannot expect to achieve the same results as if it was in the 20 th century. Ideas in
which the content is taught outside can be highly beneficial for them. If students participated
actively in class, they would notice that they play an important role in class and not just the teacher.
For example, if each students presented their own local community and its characteristics in front
of the classmates. They were equally learning and developing skills but, in addition, they will be all
integrated and they would have the opportunity to talk about themselves and their backgrounds.

To sum up, education system should change their objectives and leading them to a new structure. It
is time to help students and learners to open their minds and make them think that they can learn
from different and engaging ways. Moreover, in today’s globalised world, it is necessary to foster
innovative activities in which students are able to open their minds and know more about what is
going on in different countries. Finally, we should all fight for any children/student not to find
resistance to attend school. It must be seen as a friendly place for them in which they will get the
most out of it.
