22nd January 2015.

Letter of recommendation for Mr. Ilija Jovanov.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter to recommend Ilija Jovanov as an outstanding candidate for graduate studies
in electrical engineering.

Ilija spent last four years as an undergraduate student at the School of Electrical Engineering at the
University of Belgrade. I first met him in spring semester of 2011 when he took my Signals and
Systems class. This class is mandatory and considered to be among the group of more difficult
classes. It emphasizes the mathematical side of the subject and with two extra homeworks in
addition to the exams is highly demanding. However, Ilija did very well in the class and easily earned
maximum grade 10 (in our grading system grade 10 is usually awarded only to very few exceptional
students who achieve 91 or higher percentage of the total offered credit). Soon afterwards I was
happy to see Ilija again in fall semester of 2011 in my Automatic Control Systems class. With no
surprise Ilija shined again and easily earned another grade 10.

What left an everlasting impression on me during these classes were Ilijas special interest in taught
subjects, hard working nature, and superb problem solving skills. Ilijas calm demeanor and patience
to carefully study even the most subtle details of taught subject as well as his ability to quickly
understand the most complicated underlying fundamentals are absolutely brilliant.

Besides being a great student, Ilijas initiative to do additional projects and practical work apart from
high amount of what is required, as well as appearance of relative ease that he shows while
completing these tasks in parallel with his regular studies is what made him stand out the most.
During spring semester of 2012, he took Spectral Signals Analysis class. Here, he showed great
resourcefulness by making a real time simulation of homing rocket, chasing an airplane, navigated by
Kalman filter. This project was not a requirement, and while being time consuming, Ilija completed it
with high level of independence and professionalism, and completed the subject with the highest
grade at the same time.

At the end I am happy to see Ilija reaching further and looking for new horizons. His desire to obtain
a Ph.D. is just a logical continuation of the success that he has achieved so far. Outstanding academic
record and a great combination of hard working, nice, and energetic personality make him an
extraordinary candidate for graduate program in electrical engineering. I am completely sure that he
will do exceptionally well as a graduate student and hence I strongly recommend him for your PhD
program.
Sincerely,

Dr Zeljko Djurovic, professor
