2021/2022 ORIENTATION PROGRAMME OF

COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

The Orientation programme was held on the 20 th of January, 2022 by 9.00am in the
Computer Engineering Workshop. Opening prayer was given by Mr. Ikomi and Mrs.
Oreoluwa introduced the Staff in the department and gave the opening address.

Attendance
1. Engr. E. U. Orodje - Dean, School of Engineering
2. Mrs. E. Oreoluwa - HOD, Computer Engineering Department
3. Mr. E. Ikomi - Technologist
4. Miss. Seyi Balogun - School Officer
5. Mrs. A. O. Adewumi - Secretary

The programme was anchored by the HOD, Mrs. E. Oreoluwa and staff were given topics
to speak on.

COMPUTER ENGINEERING: TRENDS AND PRACTICES

This section was handled by the Dean, Engr. E. U. Orodje. Find below the summary of
his lecture:
 Computer Engineering is a discipline that integrates several fields of electrical
engineering and computer science required to develop computer hardware and
software.
 Artificial intelligence and robotics: centers on machine coding that mimics human
and animal intelligence. This can be used to help detect credit card fraud.
 Robotics: the Robotics field studies and develops robots in the pursuit of making
life easier in the areas of farming and food preparation etc.
 Cyber Security: focuses on protecting computer systems and networks from cyber
threats and attacks. Companies need cyber security to protect their proprietary and
customers’ data.
 Bioinformatics: professionals in this field studies, store and analyze biological
information.
 Automation: is an automatic process typically controlled by computers and
sensors.

LABORATORY/WORKSHOP PRACTICES (MR. ELIJAH IKOMI)

It is a place providing opportunity for experimentation, observation or practice in a field
of study.
Laboratory Safety Procedure-
 Always put on Lab Coat.
 No horse play/fighting
 Avoid sitting on the work table
 No eating/drinking
 Switch off your phone before entering the Lab.
 No smoking

Some other rules include:

 Do not open the system unit casing or monitor casing particularly when the power
is turn on. Some internal component hold electric voltages of up to 3000 volts,
which can be fatal.
 Do not inserts such as clips, pins and needles into the Computer casings. They
may cause fire.

CALCULATION OF GPA AND CGPA (MRS. KEMI OREOLUWA)

Credit unit is the weight attached to a course, depending on the number of lecture hours

hour of lecture per week, per semester or two hours of practical work or studio design per
week per semester.
Keys to Grade

Grading Units
In the evaluation system, a student is credited with total Credit Unit – CU registered for
in a semester. However, the Units Taken – UT, along with the Units Passed- UP for the
number of courses and the corresponding grade point score- GP for each course taken in
a semester will be used to determine the student's Weighted Grade Point.

Grade Point Average

To calculate the Grade Point Average for the semester, the following formula applies:
WGP = nCU*GP
GPA = WGP
TUT
Outstanding Units UO/S = UT – UP
CGPA = CWGP (for all semesters)
CTUT (For all semesters)

Classification of Diplomas
Diplomas are classified from Distinction to ordinary Pass according to the CGPA as
shown below:
CGPA GRADE
3.50 and above Distinction
3.00 – 3.49 Upper Credit
2.50 – 2.99 Lower Credit
2.00 – 2.49 Pass

VOTE OF THANKS (MRS. OREOLUWA)

The HOD, Mrs. Kemi Oreoluwa gave the vote of thanks. She thanked the Dean School of
