Answer 3A:

The two cases in which girls were unfortunately beaten up for doing things routinely done by boys
further illustrates how patriarchy is deeply entrenched in our society.
There are multiple reasons for such violence:

1)India has a patriarchal culture in which men are given a higher standing in the household, and
women are expected to follow suit.
2)Despite various advancements, women continue to have a lower social status. Domestic violence
cases, dowry murders, molestation, and rapes against them are all evidence of this, with domestic
violence instances being the most common.
3)The patriarchal mindset, male-dominated culture, prejudices against women, lack of
understanding within society, ignorance, casteism, presuming women as a lesser segment,
and hierarchical gender relations are all factors that contribute to women's subordination.
Patriarchal attitudes have a notion of male superiority and female inferiority. Thus, it encourages
violent behavior against women.
4)Prejudice social custom- social evils like dowry resulted in multifront wrongdoing like domestic
violence; natality equality resulted in phenomena like son meta preferences, unwanted girls, and
missing women.
5) Poor educational standards, which are of poor quality and do not reach backward areas, are also
to blame. Values such as equality and tolerance should be instilled in children through school, but
this is not happening.
6) Laws that are not properly implemented play a big role. In the second case, the police took a
month to submit an FIR following the incident. Such hesitation and sensitivity on the part of the
police enable the criminals to act with impurity.
7) Overburdened jurisprudence system results in delay in getting the justice that further encourages
impunity.

Women mobility starts with their marriage, but now in the search for economic activity, women
migrate. With new opportunities, new challenges arise, there are many concerns in society linked to
women using mobile phones and being mobile:

Honor killing: People suspect that girls communicating with boys are in a romantic relationship with
them. If that's the case, it'll be a source of ‘dishonor’ for their family. As a result, today's honour
killings are frequent.
If a woman or girl uses a cell phone, she may become educated and so empowered, and hence fight
patriarchal views and refuse to listen to her husband or father. It's also possible that other girls will
demand the same thing. As a result, society blames them for doing so.

Inclusive policies: Lack of inclusive women-related legislation, such as the lack of institutionalized
day-care centers (creche facilities), contribute to women's difficulties working and managing home
at the same time, as does the lack of sufficient maternity leave. On the other hand, the responsibility
of care hinders women from working in male-dominated jobs that are less flexible in terms of hours
and leave, limiting them to part-time or informal work. Low compliance and lack of awareness to
Vishaka guidelines (The Sexual Harassment of Women (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act
2013) at workplace is a great concern.

Transportation: Many Indian women are unable to reach better-paying employment due to a lack of
inexpensive and efficient transportation options. Urban sprawl has expanded the distance between
home and work as a result of unplanned development. According to the ‘Gender pay gap’, .
According to the 2018 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report, India ranks 108th out of
149 nations on the Gender Gap Index. Women in the country earn 19 percent less than men,
according to the Monster Salary Index (MSI) published in March 2019. Males make 26 percent more
than women in IT services, while men earn 24 percent more in manufacturing.

Safety & security concerns: Another key hurdle to attaining labour participation ambitions is while
commuting and at work. The crime rate registered per lakh women population is 62.4 in 2019 in
comparison with 58.8 in 2018,” says the NCRB report.

Informalized workforces: In metropolitan regions, women are concentrated in the informal sector,
working as street sellers, construction laborers, domestic maids, office and school cleaners, and
other jobs that pay a poor wage and do not provide benefits like as health insurance or maternity
leave.

The position of women in society is complex to analyze. While we are worshipped, on the one hand,
we are the victims of horrifying crimes on the other. Parents should educate their children so they
appreciate one another and are willing to share household chores. Boys must be trained not to
repeat phrases like "This is a woman's thing" or to disparage specific professions or interests. There's
always something else we can do. Men and children benefit when women uplift themselves (and we
are uplifted by other women and men).

As rightly stated by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar – “I measure the progress of a community with the degree of
progress women have achieved”. Hence, to remove the shackles of patriarchy, we will need to work
together, and this will lead to a new India, which our forebears fought for and dreamed of.
