DEM Commons Area Client Stakeholder Interview Questions


This is a shared common space for students, staff, administrators, and public visitors. Come up with interview
questions for each of these stakeholders as to what they would like to see in the space. For example, to get
started suggested things to questions would be:

What do you use the space for? What do you like about this space?
How do you want the space to feel? What do you dislike about this space?
What type of displays would you like to see?

Questions to ask Students


1. Do you like the current appearance of our DEM commons area or certain elements in it?
2. Do you like the setup of the other Academy Commons Areas? If so, what elements?
3. Would you like to see more color added to the area or should it keep consistent with the overall
appearance of the school?
4. Do you find the current setup of chairs and tables in the area to be good for learning?
5. What new furniture would you like to see in the commons area?
6. Should the commons area represent more of who the DEM students are? If so, what could be added to
do so?
7. What elements could be added to make the DEM commons area appear more approachable?

Questions to ask Teachers


1. Do you currently take advantage of the DEM commons area for your classes?
2. Do you like the current DEM Commons setup of chairs and tables?
3. As a teacher, do you ever take advantage of the area during your prep? Depending on your answer to
that, why or why not?
4. Do you think more colorful elements need to be added to the area? If so, what could this look like?
5. What new type of furniture would work best for this area?
6. Should this area have more elements in it of what the DEM academy entails?
7. How do you think we could add more school spirit to the area?

Questions to ask Administrators


1. When in the building do you utilize the DEM Commons? Why or why not?
2. What elements of the other commons in the school do you like and think would be good to be
considered for a redesign of the DEM commons?
3. Do you think the commons area needs more seating and tables? If so, what setup do you think would
create the best work environment?
4. Should the DEM commons area represent the DEM students better? If so, what could be added to do
this?
5. Should the DEM commons and/or any of the commons in general have their own bright appearance or
should they stay true to the Romeo colors?

Questions to ask Public Visitors


1. What makes a space appear approachable to you when you walk into an unfamiliar place?
2. When visiting the High School, does the DEM commons area seem approachable? Why or why not?
3. What kind of furniture would you like to see in the commons area for not only general sitting but also for
working?
4. Appearance wise, what do you like and dislike about the DEM commons area?
5. What elements of the other commons areas do you think could be utilized in a redesign of the DEM
commons?
