10,000 Hours of Hard Work

For years I have taught the importance of hard work, determination and practice
as key ingredients of success. Malcom Gladwell has written a fascinating study,
Outliers: The Story of Success, which should make people feel much better about not
achieving immediate success.
Actually, he says it takes about 10 years, or 10,000 hours, of practice to become a
true expert. “The people at the very top don’t just work harder or even much harder
than everyone else,” Gladwell writes. “They work much, much harder.” Achievement,
he says, is talent plus preparation. Preparation seems to play a bigger role. For
example, he describes the Beatles: They had been together seven years before their
famous arrival in America. They spent a lot of time playing in clubs in Hamburg,
Germany, sometimes as long as eight hours a night. Estimates are that the band
performed 1,200 times before their big success in 1964. By comparison, most bands
do not perform 1,200 times in their careers.
Neurologist Daniel Levitin has studied the formula of success. Levitin’s studies of
composers, basketball players, fiction writers, ice skaters, criminals and so forth
proved that 10,000 hours of practice is required to achieve a level associated with
being world-class expert in anything. Of course, this does not explain why some people
get more out of their practice sessions than others do. However, no one has yet found
a case in which world-class skill was reached in less time. Levitin states, “It seems that
it takes the brain this long to learn all that it needs to know to achieve true expertise.”
The Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova said, “No one can arrive from being just talented.
God gives talent; work transforms talent into genius.” Moreover, the American
architect Frank Lloyd Wright said that the price of success is hard work and continuous
dedication to the things that you want to see happen. Yet the formula for success was
the same: hard work and lots of it. You do not just have to work hard, you have to
work smart, too. Some people dream about success and others wake up and do
something about it. Harvey Mackey

SECTION III. THE ASSESSMENT OF WRITTEN/PRAGMATIC COMPETENCES (17 points) :
Comment on the following saying: “Some people often repeat that the future of your life lies in your
own hands and not in your fate (destin). What do you think?” (introduction, development,
conclusion, 2 examples, arguments, linking words)

I agree with this saying “Some people often repeat that the future ofyour life lies in your own hands
and not in your fate (destin). ”
Because, it's true, because the future is in your hands, everything you want you have to make an
effort to get or get somewhere, if you wait for fate to do it you still won't get anything.
I think all people have the same destiny, but they all have different lives because they did.
Our fate or destiny is in our hands, this applies when we gain some sensitivity, when we begin to
make decisions, when we begin to see things clearly. This happens to people at different ages, in
different circumstances. After that, every step we take, or every action or effort of ours, helps us
create our future, our destiny can.
Do not trust destiny or fate, you should trust yourself and trust your actions and hard work, the
payments are always beautiful. Believe in your work and in its direction.
In conclusion, I can say that to get something you have to make an effort, do not expect anything
from fate.
