Solve the following math problem, Encircle or Highlight your final answer
1. In a class there are 30 students. Twenty-one of the students like Math, 16 students
like English and 6 students don’t like Math or English. How many students like both
Math and English?

2. There are 18 cars on a garage forecourt. Twelve cars are diesels, 5 cars are
automatics and 3 cars are automatic diesels. Find out how many cars are not
automatic and not a diesel.

3. A and B together weigh 242 pounds. They balance when A seated 5 feet from the
fulcrum on one side of a lever and B is seated 6 feet from the fulcrum on the other
side. Find the weight of each.

4. A vinter has two casks of wine from each of which he draw 6 gallons and then finds
that the quantities left are to each other as 4 to 7. He then puts into the smaller
casks 3 gallons, and into greater 4 gallons, and the quantities they contain are the
to each other as 7 to 12. How many gallons wee there in each at first?
5. Some smugglers discovered a cave which would exactly hold their cargo, which
consisted of 13 bales of cotton and 33 casks of wine. While they were uploading, a
naval gunboat was sighted so they sailed away with 9 casks and 5 bales still
unloaded, leaving the cave 2/3 full. How many bales only or how many casks only
would the cave hold?

6. A wall was built a rectangular court to a certain height. The length of one side of the
court was 2 yards less than eight times the height of the wall and the length of the
adjacent side was 5 yards less than 6 times the height of the wall. The number of
square yards in the court was greater than the number in the inside face of the wall
by 178. Find the dimension of the court and the height of the wall.

7. A company has a certain number of machines of equal capacity that produced a


total of 180 pieces each working day. If 2 machines breakdown, the work load of the
remaining machine is increased by 3 pieces each per day to maintain production.
Find the number of machines.

8. The sum of the sides of 2 polygon is 12 and their diagonals is 19. Determine the
number of sides of each polygon.
9. A cat is pursued by a dog. The cat takes 5 leaps while the dog is taking 3.5. Four of
the dogs leaps are equivalent to 7 of the cat’s. The cat has 45 of her own leaps at
the start. How many leaps will each make before the cat is caught.

10. In a certain family, the sum of the parents’ ages is twice the sum of their children’s
ages. Five years ago, the sum of the parents’ ages was four times the sum of the
children’s ages during that time. In fifteen years, the sum of the parents’ ages will be
equal to the sum of their parents’ ages. How many children are there in the family?

11. In January of the year 2000, I was one more than eleven times as old as my son
William. In January of 2009, I was seven more than three times as old as him. How
old was my son in January of 2000?

12. Mary is 24 years old. Mary is twice as old as Ann when Mary was as old as Ann is
now. How old is Ann now?
