Illustrative Examples in the Philippines (at least 5)

a. Feeding programs conducted by schools – in our university, this is being implemented in
the course of CWTS as part of NSTP.
b. Teaching programs such as the LTS or Literacy Training Service aims to help students of
this course to be able to teach literacy and numerical skills school children, out-of-school
youth and other segments of society in need of their services
c. Handline or line gear fishing is a sustainable fishing method. Some tuna fishermen have
turned to this strategy to assist conserve fishing resources and assure a steady supply.
d. The Philippines has been shifting to renewable energy, as evident by its major
conglomerates. AC Energy is investing 14 billion pesos ($274 million) to fund the solar and
wind energy projects of two subsidiaries as it aims to deepen its investments in renewable
energy.
e. The government had announced in 2020 that no new coal-fired power plants will be
constructed. This aims to mitigate the amount of greenhouse gases the country contributes.

SDG related Policies and Programs in the Philippines

a. Dynamic Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agricultural Biodiversity to ensure Food
Security and Ecosystems Services and Resiliency (FSP). It aims to mainstream the
conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity for assuring food security,
better livelihoods, and a resilient environment.
b. Social Change to End VAC. The Filipino population is more aware and equipped to engage
the government and demand that it commits to and take action to end all types of child
abuse.
c. The Adaptable Digitally Enabled Post-Disaster Transformation (ADEPT) Project. It aims to
demonstrate the feasibility of a digitally-enabled, end-to-end solution for expedited disaster
recovery and resilience of affected communities.
Short Summative Explanation:
The world today faces a lot of issues that affects many of the global population. The
world leaders then came to decide that these issues must be addressed through the SDGs.
From the policies and programs conducted by the government and its associated
organizations to the communal projects of the schools and universities, the issues are
slowly but surely being addressed. Even the local pollution tries in earnest to achieve
sustainability – such as the handline fishing as mentioned. Promised, plans and investment
are being done today in the hopes that in the future, our world is in a better state.
