Welcome Stud. I'm Major Rick Tooth Callsign "Sabre" and will be your Flight Examiner (FE) for
this Performance Objective.

AFT05 - Illumination Flare Employment is the fifth mission of the Advanced Aircraft Training
Qualification Course for the A/OA-10C.

Your grading will be based on the following in accordance with the A/OA-10 Aircrew Evaluation
Criteria: AFI11-2A-OA-10V2:

3.4.1.17. Area 67 --Weapons System Utilization:

3.4.1.17.1. Qualified (Q). Correctly utilized the weapon system to deliver the desired ordnance
(actual or simulated). Executed all required procedures to successfully employ the weapon.
3.4.1.17.2. Qualified Minus (Q-). Late to prepare the weapon system to deliver the desired
ordnance. Minor procedural errors degraded weapons employment. A successful reattack following
a dry pass is an example of degraded weapons employment.
3.4.1.17.3. Unqualified (U). Did not correctly prepare the weapon system to deliver the desired
ordnance. Improper procedures during the attack resulted in unsuccessful weapons delivery.

3.4.1.18. Area 68--Sensor Management:

3.4.1.18.1. Qualified (Q). Correctly planned, briefed, prioritized and executed a sound sensor
management plan. Accounted for threats, changes in tasking, weather and flight member
experience. Re-prioritized sensor tasks based on existing and new information to ensure mission
success.
3.4.1.18.2. Qualified Minus (Q-). Made minor errors in planning, prioritization and management
of sensor tasks. Did not completely account for threats, changes in tasking, weather or flight
member experience.
3.4.1.18.3. Unqualified (U). Incorrectly prioritized or managed sensor tasks in a manner which
seriously degraded mission accomplishment or safety of flight. Over-tasked other flight members
or failed to communicate task over-load. Displayed lack of knowledge of sensor systems.

In addition we will be following the Air Operations Rules and Procedures AFI11-214 section
5.5.4. Night Illumination Flare Procedures.
5.5.4.1. Computations. Plan the minimum altitude for flare release to ensure illumination flare
burnout before ground impact.
5.5.4.2. Class B and C Range radio procedures are same as day.
5.5.4.3. If a dud flare is suspected, cease range operations until the flare is no longer a
hazard.
5.5.4.4. Determine the Flare Release Point by using a FAC(A)/JTAC, GPS/INS coordinates, radar
vector, dead reckoning, computed systems Continuously Computer Release Point (CCRP) or by the
RCO. If position is uncertain, do not attempt a flare release.
5.5.4.5. Flare patterns and procedures are variable. Make flare drop and ordnance deliveries in
any sequence that provides continuous illumination of the target area.
5.5.4.6. Flare Support Aircraft Coordination. Establish positive coordination between flare
support aircraft, weapons delivery aircraft, and RCOs to ensure a mutual understanding and
knowledge of the overall operation. Specific briefing items will include:
5.5.4.6.1. Range entry, exit, and deconfliction procedures.
5.5.4.6.2. Pattern altitude and direction.
5.5.4.6.3. Expected number of flares dropped on each pass for each different event.
5.5.4.6.4. Execution of Dud flare procedures.

This PO will require you to deploy LUU-2B/B Illumination flares. You must drop within 1nm of
the target to pass.

The pattern altitude for landing is 2500'.

The Hard Deck Restriction is in effect at 5000'. Do not violate this restriction unless it is
terminated.

I'll be your wingman on this flight so I can monitor your attack procedures.
