A Beautiful Mind

The story of John Nash in the movie "A Beautiful Mind" shocked me in so many ways.
The movie did not only go in one predictable direction. It went into a roller coaster ride of
instances and twists. It is for the people out there that are having a hard time dealing with
darkness in their lives. One line of John Nash that touched my heart in the movie is "You can't
come up with a formula to change the way you experience the world." – John Nash

John Nash lived two lives. A life that is true and a life that I think he needed somehow.
Indeed, Nash's mental health problem, Schizophrenia, caused so many scars and hardships, but I
believe that somehow, in a way, the hallucinations helped him not to feel alone and to feel happy
and comforted. He has such an intelligent mind based on his achievements and discoveries, but
when he had a mental health problem, people seemed to forget that unique ability. The darkness
outshined the light. It is never normal living life and meeting people under the sense of
hallucination. Especially when that hallucination gravely affects the way you live and the people
you love. Philosophy in our inner selves teaches us that there is a big difference between
knowledge and belief. Knowing the Four Kinds of Knowledge, especially Episteme (knowing
what we know and what such knowledge is valid) and Principle of Identity and Rationalism
(choices should be made in reason and knowledge rather than on emotional response) is the key
to distinguishing reality from imagination.

The title of the movie is "A Beautiful Mind." With all the things that happened in the life
of John Nash, he not only has an intelligent mind that I have said earlier, but he also has a
beautiful mind. Being able to handle all the things that happened to him, in that mind, is already
amazing. With that being said, he opened a whole new perspective to the people who have
watched the film, including me. The film made me realize that distinguishing reality from
imagination may be hard for other people and that it is not simple as it may seem. It opened my
eyes to the thought that having darkness is normal at some point in our lives. That darkness can
be a light for a new life, opportunity, and experience to the world.
