1. INTRODUCTION
The proposed structure consists of a car parking platform near the road side. From
parking platform an approach jetty leads to various boat docking locations. A link span
connects the fixed jetty to floating dock.
2. STRUCTURAL CONFIGURATION
The jetty structure is supported on pile foundations. End bearing piles well socketted in
bed rock are given.
Cast in situ Cross heads are provided for connecting pile rows. Precast RCC girders are
supported on cross heads. RCC precast panels are provided on the girders to cover the
entire area of jetty. The panels act as shuttering for in-situ casting of deck slab
The proposed structure is modeled with suitable geometry using STAAD-PRO software.
The various loads on the structure and load combination were applied and analysis is
carried out. The structural members were designed by limit state method with suitable
size and reinforcement and satisfying all marine safety conditions.
3. LOAD CONSIDERED
3.1 Dead load
All dead loads of and on structures relating to docks and harbour was assessed and
included in the design. Dead loads consist of the weight of all components of the structure
as well as the weight of all permanent attachments.
Since the jetty is for passenger use, so live load considered as 10kN/m2 as per table no.01
of IS 4651 part-3.
Berthing Energy - When an approaching vessel strikes a berth a horizontal force acts on
the berth. The magnitude of this force Depends on the kinetic energy that can be absorbed
by the rendering system. The reaction force for which the berth is to be designed can be
obtained and Deflection-reaction diagrams of the fendering system chosen.
These diagrams are obtainable from fender manufacturers the kinetic energy, E, imparted
to a fendering system, by a vessel moving with velocity V m/s is given by:
E=WDV2 (Cm)(Ce)(Cs)
2g
Where,
W D = Displacement tonnage (DT) of the vessel in tonnes.
V = Velocity of vessel in m/s, normal to the berth
g = Acceleration due to gravity in m/s2

C m = Mass coefficient
C e = Eccentricity coefficient
C s = Softness coefficient
l = Distance from the centre of gravity of the vessel to the point of contact projected along
the water line of the berth.
r = Radius of gyration of rotational radius on the plane of the vessel from its centre of
gravity.
The mooring loads are the lateral loads caused by the mooring lines when they pull the
ship into or along the dock or hold it against the forces of wind or current. The maximum
mooring loads are due to the wind forces on exposed area on the broad side of the ship in
light condition
F = Cw Aw P
Cw = shape factor
P = wind age pressure in KN/m2 to be taken in accordance with IS: 875-Part 3-2015
Based on Displacement tonnage, bollard pull is taken as from table 4 (IS 4651 Part 3)
Forces due to Current - Pressure due to current will be applied to the area of the vessel
below the water line when fully loaded.
F= w v2/2 g
Velocity of current ( v)
Wind contributes primarily to the lateral loading on a pier. It blows from many directions
and can change without notice. The wind impinging upon a surface increases the pressure
on that surface and results in a force loading. Design wind speed (Vz) = Vbk1k2k3

1.2 SITE LOCATION & PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION:
This Geotechnical Investigation report is for the proposed construction of
Radio Jetty in Mumbai.
2. SCOPE OF WORK:
The scope of work for this site consists of the following.
A) Reconnaissance Survey:
Prior to our field exploration, the site and surrounding areas were visually
evaluated by M/S. Jay Gajanan Geotechnics, Thane ( W). The observations
were used in planning explorations, in determining areas of special interest,
and in relating site conditions to known geologic conditions in the proposed
project area. Subsurface exploration programme includes visit to a site and
study the map and other relevant records. The information about the following
features is obtained:
i. General topography of the site.
ii. Existence of underground water mains, power conduits, etc. at the site.
iii. Existence of settlement cracks in structure already built near site.
iv. The evidence of landslides, creep of slope and shrinkage cracks.
v. The stratification of soil observed from deep cuts near the site.
vi. Depth of ground water table as observed in wells and drainage pattern.
5|P age
vii. Type of vegetation existing at the site.
B) Preliminary Exploration:
The aim of a preliminary exploration is to determine the depth,
thickness, extent and composition of each soil stratum at the site. The depth
of bedrock and the ground water table is also determined. The preliminary
explorations are generally in the form of trial pits. Trial p i t s were not
considered for these sub-surface investigations.
C) Detail Ex plorati on :
The purpose of detail exploration is to determine engineering properties
o f soil in different st ra t a . It includes an extensive bo rin g programme,
sampling and testing.
Drilling:
Onsite locations of three boreholes were specified by client. For drilling
rotary type drilling rig was used. Rig was coupled with diesel engine, tripod
and all drilling accessories. Drilling rig have tripod with suitable
arrangement for driving as well as extracting casing. It was also used for
conducting Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and Disturbed or wash Soil
Sample (DS). On completion of drilling, soil samples were packed in plastic
containers with proper identification tags. Water was circulated to cool the
drilling bit.
Initially casing of adequate diameter to suit boring of 100 mm
borehole was lowered and boring was commenced. When rock was
encountered, size of borehole was changed to NX (76 mm) diameter. A core
barrel and N X sized bits are used for drilling and recovering rock cores.
Recovered rock cores were numbered serially and preserved in good quality
sturdy wooden core boxes. Rock core recovery (CR) and Rock Quality
Designation (RQD) were computed for every run of length drilled. Rock
samples have been selected for laboratory test based on the probable founding
elevation of the proposed structure.
6|P age
Standard Penetration Test and Soil Sampling:
All soil sampling and Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) was performed
in general accordance with IS: 2131 - 1981 (Reaffirmed 2002) and ASTM
Standards D 1586 and D6151. The soil borings were advanced by rotary drilling
methods. At regular intervals (1 to 1.5 m), soil samples were obtained with a
standard split-spoon sampler. The sampler was first seated 15 cm and then
driven an additional 30 cm with blows of a 63.5 kg hammer falling a distance of
75 cm. The number of blows required to drive the sampler for 30 cm was
recorded and is designated a s “standard penetration resistance” or “N” value.
Because the sampler may be damaged by driving it 12 to 18 inches into very
dense soils, it is driven a few inches into such materials and the penetration
resistance is expressed as the number of hammer blows versus the depth of
penetration, e.g. 100/10 cm, 50/5 cm, etc. Penetration resistance, when
properly evaluated, is an index of the soil‟s shear strength, density, and
foundation support capability. SPT „N‟ values are correlated with the relative
density of non-cohesive soils and consistency of saturated cohesive soils.
Laboratory tests were conducted (as per relevant IS code) on soil, rock
and water samples to determine their properties which may be used for design
and geotechnical evaluation.

Specific gravity: The knowledge of specific gravity is needed in calculation
of soil properties like void ratio, degree of saturation etc. Specific gravity G is
defined as the ratio of the weight of an equal volume of distilled water at that
temperature both weights taken in air.

1. Introduction
A Marine Piling Gantry has to be designed . The purpose of this document is to convey
the design basis report and design philosophy .
This document contains the basic assumptions made for the design of the piling gantry
and Staad.Pro software generated reports and the Shear force and Bending moment
diagrams.
Analysis and design of the piling gantry is carried out using Staad.Pro software and
conforming to IS800-1984. The yield strength of steel is considered to be 250MPa.
Design basis report
2. Functional Requirements
The gantry will provide a work platform for the following activities
1. In approach direction piling gantry will move from land side to water side
2. After driving pile in approach direction, gantry will be moved back on ground. All
beams and deck slab work will be completed Over competed concrete deck,
piling gantry will be moved to berthing position
3. In berthing direction gantry will move over grid ahead and drive piles in further
direction
4. After rolling back gantry over last grid on completed deck it will be to moved back
on ground and dismantled.

METHODOLOGY OF JETTY CONSTRUCTION
The construction method of marine jetty with pile foundation is described in this document.
1. Installation of four piles on the shore area –this is done for facilitating the fabrication
and erection of movable gantry end on method is used for this site. These points are
fixed considering the orientation at site and proper available draft checking at site. The
coordinates are checked as per GIS softwares and proper correlation is done.
2. Gantry is erected on the casted piles this involves fabrication of main beams and bracing
and platform for piling frame, crane operation and working area. Simultaneously casting
of precast girder, panel is started.
3. Piling gantry is advanced for piling of next piles in water area. Rollers are provided for
sliding the gantry platform. After moving the roller are locked until further movement
4. Using the liner and cross tie member the shuttering for cross head is done. Necessary
reinforcement is fixed in position.
5. Cross head is casted at site taking proper care . after sufficient strength achievement of
cross head it is ready for placement of precast girder
6. Precast girder is placed on the cross head using the crane. Lifting hook is provided in the
girder during the casting.
7. Panel is placed on girders. Sufficient shear connectors are provided for monolithic
structure achievement and lifting purpose.
8. Deck slab reinforcement is tied on the panel surface. All the precast components are
securely tied with each other before the further work of reinforcement and concrete is
carried out. Staircases are cast in situ.
9. Railing concreting is carried out.
10. Fixing of fender, bollard and mooring rings is done. Proper insert plates are left during
the concreting for fixing of these components.
11. All the finishing work like floor finish, coating ,painting ,MEP is carried out.
