VIETNAM AIRLINES OFFICIALLY NOTES

DOWN THE INFECTIOUS FLIGHT ATTENDANT
AND COORDINATES THE INVESTIGATION

Hanoi, 30 November 2020 - VNA has received the information about the infectious patient
that is under our flight crew. We acknowledged the seriousness of the infection and we will
severely cooperate with the investigation until the official announcement.

We have received the information that the Vietnam Airlines flight attendant H. violated the

isolation regulations by contacting colleagues, friends, and relatives during the process of

isolation. Under this circumstance, the incident does not reflect the airlines’ policy and we are

proactively coordinating the investigation to avoid unfortunate consequences. We may not have

any further statements until the investigation is done. Hence, any unofficial information during this

period may not be credible.

Vietnam Airlines has worked with the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and

Control and relevant authorities to tighten and improve the epidemic prevention process for flight

crews after conducting international flights to Vietnam and to minimize the risk of infection in the

community. In June 2020, the airline actively invested and equipped infrastructure to prevent the

risk of Sars-CoV-2 infection. Furthermore, the airline also conducts virtual training sessions to

improve service during the epidemic season. While health, vaccine, and anti-epidemic issues are

at the forefront, Vietnam Airlines still focuses on the quality of services it provides, not because of

the difficulties of the epidemic but neglects the quality of products provided to customers.

About Vietnam Airlines

Founded on 27th May 1995, Vietnam Airlines is the flag carrier of Vietnam and the major carrier in South

East Asia. After 20 years of development, Vietnam Airlines has continuously grown and risen to be the

national pride of Vietnam aviation with a wide network and a well-deserved standing in the country.

Vietnam Airlines commits to accompanying shareholders, implementing information transparency and

information disclosure, maintaining and improving the work of communicating to shareholders, towards

effective business operations on the basis of coping between shareholders and Vietnam's economic

development.

VIETNAM AIRLINES APOLOGIZES FOR THE
CASE OF MALE FLIGHT ATTENDANT
SPREADING COVID-19
Hanoi, 2 December 2020 - Vietnam Airlines wholeheartedly apologizes for the unexpected incident of
our flight attendant spreading Covid-19 into the community due to non-compliance with isolation
regulations.

Following the guiding document of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on

the application of isolation measures to flight crews of airlines, including Vietnam Airlines, our flight attendant

- Mr. H after centralized isolating and taking samples for testing twice as prescribed, had negative test results

and was allowed to return home to continue the isolation according to regulations. However, due to the loose

management and supervision of the Management Board of the Southern Vietnam Airlines Flight Attendant

Union isolation area at 115 Hong Ha, Ward 2, Tan Binh District and the personal sense of subjectivity, Mr. H had

violated the isolation regulations in contacting with colleagues, friends, relatives during centralized isolation

and at residence.

Vietnam Airlines always determines that the safety of passengers, officers, employees, flight crews, and the
community is the number 1 priority. We are earnestly coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate and
handle all individuals and organizations based on the level of violations under the direction of the Prime

Minister. At the same time, Vietnam Airlines also worked with the National Steering Committee for Covid-19

Prevention and Control and relevant authorities to tighten and improve the epidemic prevention process to

minimize the risk of infection to the community.

In order to support the organization of isolation in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and surrounding areas when the

epidemic in Vietnam was complicated, Vietnam Airlines actively invested and equipped infrastructure to

establish isolation centers to isolate employees and flight crews after performing tasks at risk of COVID-19

infection with the approval of the Departments of Health and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Up to now,

these centers have served nearly 10,000 Vietnam Airlines employees after performing their assigned tasks.

Media Kit | Vietnam Airlines

Patient 1342 (P1342) - Vietnam Airlines' male flight attendant violated epidemic

prevention regulations when implementing concentrated isolation, as well as failing to

comply with epidemic prevention regulations when isolated at home, causing himself to

contract COVID-19 and spread it to another person. That is the confirmation from the

Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City after investigating and tracing the source of

infection of two recent cases of COVID-19 in the area.

After returning to Ho Chi Minh City, the flight crew was isolated at the isolation facility

of Vietnam Airlines from November 15, 2020; sampled for the SARS-CoV-2 test twice

on November 15 and November 18, both tested negative.

Therefore, the flight crew was finished with concentrated isolation on November 18 (the

5th day after entering the country according to the regulations of the National Steering

Committee for Epidemic Prevention) and moved back to continue isolation at the place

of residence for 14 days and indicated to have a third test on the 14th day.

On the morning of November 28, the flight crew went to take a sample for the third

time, then the result of P1342 was positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 13 others had

negative results.

Through the investigation to identify the source of the patient's infection and the

patient's contacts, the Department of Health determined that during the concentrated

isolation in the isolation area of Vietnam Airlines, on November 17, P1342 had contact

with a flight attendant on another flight from Romania, this is a flight with many

passengers and flight attendants positive.

In addition, from November 18 to 28 during home isolation, P1342 did not comply with

the regulations on medical isolation, coming into close contact with 3 other people

including his biological mother and two friends (a male in District 6 and a female in

Binh Thanh). Of these 3 people, 1 person was found positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus,

that is male patient 1347.

About The Crisis

How can VN Airlines tighten the quarantine process 30
at the isolation ward and at home for employees
and customers?

Media Kit | Vietnam Airlines

We have devised some temporary and permanent solutions to tighten the quarantine

process. Close the isolation ward temporarily and improve employee training in

epidemic prevention and control. Moreover, employees and customers must strictly

follow the isolation procedure during isolation time. It is strictly prohibited to

congregate or meet without the permission of the staff in charge of the isolation ward.

How can VN Airlines tighten the quarantine process at the isolation ward and at home

for employees and customers?

Do you agree with customers who responded badly

and boycotted the flight attendants of Vietnam
Airlines for this issue?

As Vietnam's national pride airline, we always determine that the safety of passengers,

officers, employees, flight crews, and the community is the number one priority. This

incident was unintentional, and we try to coordinate closely with authorities to assist

violators to be traced and sanctioned. Vietnam Airlines wants everyone to have a more

objective view on this issue and not because “m ột con sâu làm rầu nồi canh” ( Just
because one flight attendant harms the image of the entire Vietnam Airlines team)

What will you do to ensure it will not happen again?

To prevent a re-occurrence of this situation, we have committed to tightening

management and raising the curfew during quarantine. Flight attendants and

customers are required to enter the minutes in order to strictly adhere to the rules

established in the isolation area and penalize violations.

quarantine quality management?

As a national airline, we strive to provide the best flight services while also tightening

isolation security to help Vietnamese people returning from abroad stay safe.

Furthermore, we constantly improve professionalism and train staff on better

quarantine procedures, as well as guide customers on the right track for safe

quarantine. The quarantine centers have all been inspected and monitored by the

cities' Departments of Health and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and their

establishment has been approved by the People's Committee and the Steering

Committee for Prevention and Control of City Services.

Is it unfair to let the flight attendant of Vietnam

Airlines take full responsibility?

Vietnam Airlines deeply regrets the recent issue. Vietnam Airlines has thoroughly

educated each staff member on the laws regulating concentrated isolation and

isolation at residence. The movement and meeting with acquaintances during H's

quarantine, which is due to personal subjective consciousness and to the Management

Board's lax management and supervision of the concentrated isolation ward in the

South center. Under the direction of the government, the airline has been actively

coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate and handle all individuals and

organizations based on the level of violations.

Will VN Airlines fire that flight attendant?

We will temporarily suspend the male flight attendant's duties in order to coordinate

with the investigation to determine the cause of the incident. In addition, he will face

disciplinary initiatives in this regard.

Why did you initiate this CSR program? Is it an

activity to whitewash the recent crisis?

This CSR aims to mitigate the pandemic's losses and consequences. Assist the country

in quickly overcoming the pandemic. In the context of the ongoing COVID-19

pandemic, which has a direct impact on businesses, we hope that Vietnam Airlines'

cultural values will be strongly promoted, giving Vietnam Airlines the strength to adapt

to changes and challenges, as well as difficulties from the external environment.

Simultaneously, Vietnam Airlines has always prioritized communicating the message of

Vietnam Airlines' cultural values to customers and shareholders through the promotion

of brand image with orientation, and cultural depth.

Who can be the beneficiary of this campaign?

Promote the value of the Vietnamese people's image of "lá lành đùm lá rách" (People
in better conditions assist those in worse conditions). Despite the fact that the situation

in the country remains difficult due to COVID-19's influence, VNA remains ready to

assist compatriots from far away in returning home. Furthermore, after the epidemic

situation has been controlled and stabilized, promoting the desire of international

friends to visit Vietnam and the transportation needs of domestic people.
