Case Study
Case study is presented clients past studies, allowed to the assessment and
way of the correct thinking to perceptive of complex issues or problems. It considers
that in-depth enquiry is necessarily. When issues with regards community based
problems i.e. poverty, unemployment; drug addiction, illiteracy etc. are raising then
role of case study becomes more prominent and through case study is able to
understand the behavioural conditions through the clients’ perspective.
The case study is a unique way of observing any natural phenomenon which
exists in a set of data. Researcher is giving some case study that touch in heart and
with these particular studies whole picture will be cleared to us.

CASE STUDY-1

Mr. Aman (Imaginary Name) is a 44 years married old man. He is married


and has two children, one girl and one boy child. He lives in chowk in his own native
house. Other members of his family are well educated but he is literate only.

At present time, he is a labourer at a small hotel. Earlier he was working in


catering industry on the contractual basis. His economic conditions are very low as
he earns only 150-200 Rs. / per day. Due to economic compulsions his wife also has
to work in a mobile shop but other family members do not support them. Marital
conflicts also occur due to the financial status.

Since the age of 25 years, he has been taking drugs. His brother gave him
drugs in cigarette due to jealousy. After sometime he became habitual of drugs.
Because of this addiction, his food stall got closed. Because of the poor physical
health conditions, he had to go to de-addiction centre. After coming back from de-
addiction centre he again started taking drugs like smack, alcohol and some other
substance which were available at that time.

He got relapsed four times and joined two other de-addiction centres. But he
could not get recovered. According to him, family tension, family crisis and
economic crisis were the main factors for relapse. He stole jewellery from his own

house and that’s why he had to go to jail. Thus it is observed that he is having lower
social adjustment.

CASE STUDY-2

Mr. Ram (Imaginary Name) is a 44 years married man and he got separated
from his wife few years back. He had to sell his house because of the drug addiction.
He got married on the recommendation of his friend but he thinks that it was a wrong
decision. Because of his wife the family conflicts were increasing day by day. He left
the drug when his family problems got solved and he started living with his mother
who is very supporting and caring for him. But he again started to take drug due to
his married and family issues. His wife and mother both used to fight with each other
and most of the time his wife used to blame that her mother-in-law torture her. He
usually had a fight with his wife on the issue of living separately. She did not care for
her mother-in-law though she was mentally disturbed and needed proper care of her
family.

Sometimes ago, his mother left house because of Alzheimer and did not come
back again. He got very upset and reported in police station and tried to find her
everywhere but he couldn’t. Marital conflicts increased day by day and he again
started taking drugs. One day his wife left him and went her parent’s house and after
few days she demanded divorce. He tried to apologise his but she refused. Mr. Ram
(Imaginary Name) started taking more doses of drug and grown to be a drug addict.
Sometimes ago he went to de-addiction centre from himself but at this time he come
in de-addiction centre with his friend.

Presently, he feels relief and physically he is much better. At present he also


wants divorce and he has decided that if his wife does not want live together then
he’ll give divorce and go for remarriage. He is trying to increase self-esteem and
preparing to start a normal life.

CASE STUDY-3

Mr. Retesh (Imaginary Name) is 23 year young boy. In his family there are
parents, a sister (married) and a brother. In his family, there are 4 buffalos and his
father run a dairy shop. But presently he is unemployed.

After several frequent meetings, he told the researcher the reason that why he
started taking the drug. He loved some girl who lived in the neighbourhood and she
also loved him. They used to meet outside with the help of friends. Thus, they belong
to different religions. After some time ago parents got to find out about their
relationship. Mr. Retesh (Imaginary Name) parents have got agree but girl parents
didn’t give permission to marry. Girl parents forcefully got her married to some of
the same religion’s boy. When he found out about this, he became very sad and went
into depression. One day he went to the nearby lake, for getting some peace and
relaxation and to heal his sadness. There his friends offered him some drugs, and that
was the point when he started taking drug. He used to take drug 6 to 8 times in a
week. When his parents got to know about this, they admitted him in de-addiction
centre, but he relapsed 5 to 6 times.

CASE STUDY-4

Mr. shyam (Imaginary Name) is a 35years old men. He lives in his own
house with her mother, brother, wife and his one child. He took a rickshaw on rent
and manages to earn 6000 to 8000 Rs. per months. Presently, his family is facing
economic crisis and reason is that he is a drug addicts and he does not go to work
regularly. He told that friends forced me for taking drug and I took it. During 4th to
5th sessions he shared the main reason of starting drug. He has got married at the age
of 26 but he was not happy and was living a sad life. After 3 months he shared his
problem from his friends. The problem was that his wife and his married life were
not going good due to worst sexual relationship. He told his friends, that he is not
perfect because he is not able to satisfy his wife and that why he was so upset. After
listening to the issue, his friends suggested him that after taking drug he will be able
to make better sexual relations. He was happy to hear that and started daily drug.
After some months his wife got to know that he is taking drug then she gently tried to

persuade him to leave it but he had became habitual till then, so he did not able to
quit the drug. His wife admitted him in a de-addiction centre but he came back then
he again started drug He faced 2-3 times relapse but his wife is being supportive all
the time so that his treatment get successful.

CASE STUDY-5

Mr. Jeet (Imaginary Name) is 22 year young boy. He lives with his mother
and two brothers. His father left the house, when he was 9 year old. He shared that
his mother is so beautiful lady and she loves him very much. She ran away from her
house for getting married to her father. He shared further that his grandparents were
not happy with this marriage but after Mr. Jeet (Imaginary Name) birth they got
normal.

He started drug when he was 11 years because he wanted to enjoy with his
friends. It’s only a game and just fun for him and his friends. After sometimes his
mother got to know and she persuade him to come de-addiction centre but when he
came back at house and he got relapse. While talking, he started crying. He said that
few days back, his mother want him stop taking drug but he was not assured and he
got angry and beat her. His mother got injured and he felt bad then he went to de-
addiction centre. He also shared the reason behind anger and indignation why he beat
his mother. Although he loves his mother so much and he dinks his mother wash
stage. When he was talking, his behaviour and way of talking was changing such as
he said his mama loves him and he also loved him and the other side he said, his
mother always sad because his mama was not supportive and always angry, mama
did not talk. His mama is not a good person because he does not care and taking to
his sister (his mother) when her husband went away.

Mr. Jeet (Imaginary Name) relapses 4 to 5 times. Once he jumped from first
floor of de-addiction centre because he wanted to get free from de-addiction centre.
At this time again admit in de addiction centre and he slowly improves herself. He
has dual personality symptoms also. He wants a sewing job and his mama supports
them. But he does not want to marry with any girl; he says that he does not want to
destroy any girl life because he is not able to handle marriage. But his mother’s is

creating a pressure on him for getting marriage. His mother thinks, after marriage he
will leave taking drugs. At this time his wants a strong family support very much.

CASE STUDY-6

Mr. Amar (Imaginary Name) is 28 years old men. He lives with his family, a
sister and parents are in his family. He is unemployed. He belongs to a rich family.
His father is a government employee. Mother is house maker. He has studied B.A.
He was not good at studies; he always spent times with friends. He always enjoyed
new fun activities. He started smoking with his friends. He started taking drug when
his friends came with drug and taking drug for enjoying. He wants to show off in
front of her friends that I am brave and he takes drug. Similarly, gradually his friends
and he became a drug addicts. For buying drug sometimes he steals in his own house.
After one year ago, when the family members came to know that he was taking drugs
so his parents took him into de-addiction centre for treatment. He relapses 3 to 4
times and he got readmitted in de-addiction centre but he has not improved. At this
time, he was not able to do daily work because his body was not supporting and not
able to think anything.
