RNA or ribonucleic acid is a polymer of nucleotides that is made up of a
ribose sugar, a phosphate, and bases(adenine, guanine, cytosine, and
uracil).I t acts as intermediate between the genetic information encoded by DNA and proteins. The key difference in RNA structure is that the ribose sugar in RNA possesses a hydroxyl (-OH) group that is absent in DNA.
Types of RNA:-
1. Messenger RNA(mRNA):- it has the genetic codes in three codes
called as triplet or codons. There are 64 triplet codons in which 20 represents the amino acids and 3 are the stop codons which stops the formation of protein. It synthesis the protein from DNA to the cytoplasm
2. Transfer RNA(tRNA):- it is responsible for decoding the genetic
message present in mRNA. It has clover-leaf structure. The main function is the transfer of amino acids during protein synthesis.
3. Ribosomal RNA(rRNA):- it is composed of a large subunit called
the 50S and a small subunit called the 30S.It acts has a protein synthesis. They interact with tRNAs and other molecules for protein synthesis process. It is present within the ribosome. It is responsible for the formation of protein from amino acids int eh ribosome.
