The Crying Stone

In a small village, a girl lives with her mother. The girl is very beautiful. Everyday she puts
make-up and wears her best clothes. She doesn’t like to help her mother work in a field. The
girl is very lazy.

One day, the mother asks the girl to accompany her to go to the market to buy some food. At
first the girl refuses, but the mother persuades her by saying they are going to buy new clothes.
The girl finally agrees. But she asks her mother to walk behind her. She doesn’t want to walk
side by side with her mother. Although her mother is very sad, she agrees to walk behind her
daughter.
On the way to the market, everybody admires the girl’s beauty. They are also curious. Behind
the beautiful girl, there is an old woman with a simple dress. The girl and her mother look very
different!“Hello, pretty lady. Who is the woman behind you?” asks them.“She is my servant,”
answers the girl.
The mother is very sad, but she doesn’t say anything. The girl and the mother meet other people.
Again they ask who the woman behind the beautiful girl. Again the girl answers that her mother
is her servant. She always says that her mother is her servant every time they meet people.
At last, the mother cannot hold the pain anymore. She prays to God to punish her daughter.
God answers her prayer. Slowly, the girl’s leg turns into stone. The process continues to the
upper part of the girl’s body. The girl is very panicky.
“Mother, please forgive me!” she cries and ask her mother to forgive her. But it’s too late. Her
whole body finally becomes a big stone. Until now people still can see tears falling down the
stone. People then call it the crying stone or “batumenangis”.

My Last Holiday
Last month, I went to Pari island with my big family. That was my second time to travel
there. I did not remember my first time because I was still three years old.

Our boat departed from Muara Angke port to the island at 7.00 a.m. We arrived at Pari
island in approximately two hours. After that, we went to our guest house that we booked
two months ago. When we got there, almost all family members were busy unpacking. I
just sat in front of the guest house and did nothing. Then I realized that it was still 10 a.m.
So, I went out to rent a bicycle. My brother did not want to join me because he went to
sleep. He said that it was too shiny to do snorkeling.

We finally had lunch at 1 p.m. I was so hungry after cycling for an hour, and did not have
any snacks. After lunch, my brother said that he wanted to go snorkeling. But my parents
said it was too hot. Well, it was 2 p.m. So, they were right. It was still hot outside.
But my brother insisted on doing it. He then asked me and our cousin Irwan to join him to
do the thing he really wanted to do by the time we arrived there. It was snorkeling. Irwan
agreed and pushed me to join.

I did not know why I agreed to join them. When we went snorkeling, the fisherman who
became our guide brought us to the beach far enough from our guest house. We went
snorkeling there. The water was very clear. We could see groups of tiny fishes and beautiful
coral under the sea. After snorkeling cheerfully for approximately three hours, we returned
to our guest house.
When we were home, I realized that my back was so itchy. At first, I did understand why.
After my mother found out, she started to nag at me. It was sunburnt. I did not enjoy the
rest of the other days staying there.

In summary, my second trip to Pari island was not really better than my first. I would like
to visit this place again together with my family in another chance. But, I would not do
snorkeling at 2 a.m. for three hours anymore.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is requesting audiences with Russian

President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine
to discuss the urgent need to bring about peace, according to a UN spokesperson.

Guterres would like “to discuss urgent steps to bring about peace in Ukraine and the future of
multilateralism based on the Charter of the United Nations and international law,” according
to a statement from UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

Separate letters were handed over to the Russia and Ukrainian missions Tuesday, Dujarric said.
The spokesperson noted that Guterres is awaiting responses from the Russian and Ukrainian
governments on a request for a meeting, taking it “one step at a time.”
Dujarric said he would be accompanying the secretary-general if he were to travel but couldn’t
elaborate on who else would go.

“We will share with you information on the delegation when we reach that step," he said.

He also wouldn’t elaborate on whether Guterres would travel to one country and not the other
if only a single country accepted the request.

“We're going to wait to see responses and then we'll make decisions ... based on the responses
we receive," he said.

Asked whether the secretary-general regretted not requesting meetings sooner, he said Guterres
“has been doing what he thinks is the most practical and the best way forward for him to deploy
his good offices and the work of the UN.”

"We are moving on a path that the secretary-general has established. The regret is that this
conflict keeps going and that the people keep suffering,” he later said.

He noted that Guterres and Russian President Vladimir Putin crossed paths briefly in Beijing
for the Winter Olympics, but Putin had left before they could meet.

“We have been in verbal contact with the permanent mission of Russia a number of times, to
try to get at least contact, direct contact, between the secretary-general and the president," he
said.

Cheap Parking
In a big town, a man walked into a bank. He told the loan officer that he needed to borrow 30
million Rupiah because he was going to Europe for a one-week business trip.
The loan officer said the bank would need collateral for the loan. Then, the man handed him
the keys an the title papers to his brand new car that was parked in the street in front of the
bank. Obviously, a one billion Rupiah car was more than enough collateral. After that, the loan
officer gave him the 30 million Rupiah. The man left and the loan officer asked a porter to park
that luxurious car into the bank’s underground parking garage. Not long after that, the big joke
among the bank employess was all about the foolish man that had put up one billion Rupiah
collateral for a measly 30 million Rupiah loan. One week later, the man returned from his trip
and repaid his loan plus the interest. The loan officer knew that the man was a multimillionaire.
He was curious and wanted to know why the man did such a foolish thing.
The man explained that he just wanted to park his car safely. He understood that he could park
his car with a big guarantee in the bank.
5. Anecdote

Scarecrow
I was from a big family. I had two aunts and one uncle whose house was so far away from my
house. I was the oldest child and had three brothers and one sister. I had a lot of friends and I
really loved them. Every day, after school, as the village kids, we gathered at the field of the
village together. There, we could play soccer, play kite, play “Back through Door” game, play
marbles, and play some other gams of children of the village. We were really closed friends.
One day, Thinky, my cousin, said, “Hi Friends, you already know that my father is a smart
farmer. He has created the scarecrow that makes birds never approache our rice again. They
just watch from three miles away. They do not dare to take even a grain of rice,” he bragged.
“That’s good,” said one of my friends. “It’s nothing,” says Pinky, a friend who also loved to
brag. “My dad had created a so big-talk that created a so big-dark scarecrow that the birds
returned all of rice that they had picked some days ago.”

Covid-19
Hand sanitizer becomes important thing during the pandemic of COVID-19. The chemical
substance in the sanitizer can help you cleaning your hand easily without using water and soap.
One of the reasons is that you will always use your hand to touch something and make contact
with other people.
During the interactions, virus can be transmitted, and applying the sanitizer on the palm of hand
is safe way to kill the virus. Then, availability of water and soap sometimes cannot be obtained
easily.
It will also take time when you have to go to toilet to wash your hands. With hand sanitizer,
you can easily clean your hands and avoid the threats of virus.
In conclusion, it is highly recommended to always bring the sanitizer whenever you go.

The Importance of Health Protocols To Prevent COVID-19

COVID-19 is becoming the main problem of the world right now. I know that we may feel
tired about COVID-19.
But, to prevent the worse condition, we have to implement health protocols strictly.
Why? First, the health protocols such as wearing masks and washing the hand can prevent the
person from getting infected by COVID-19.
Another reason is practicing physical distancing can help the government to reduce the number
of cases and do tracking. Therefore, we need to obey the health protocols and prevent the spread
of COVID-19.

The Pros and Cons of Offline School in the Midst of a Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic affects many aspects of our lives, including school. Schools are held
online at students’ respective home. However, there is a discourse that schools will be reopened
in July 2020 or January 2021.
Many parents are worried their children will have to return to school in the near future. It is
because some local governments have included plans for reopening schools in the new normal
policy. For example, Central Java Education and Culture Office will enforce the
implementation of the new normal in its region starting July 2020.
Some options emerges such as imposing a shifting system, limiting the number of students,
and implementing existing health protocols.
On the other hand, epidemiologist dr. Dicky Budiman advises not to open the school until the
situation gets better. He says that schools reopening is risky, and it probably rises to the second
wave of the coronavirus. The students can go back to schools only if the preparation is done
and screening process is fulfilled. Furthermore, if the screening process is not fulfilled, schools
reopening is not recommended for it is dangerous.
In the end, Offline School can only be done if the situation in our country gets better, or zero
case. Since the case is still rising these days, online school is the best option to avoid the new
cluster.
