Government College University Lahore is
a unique educational institution that enjoys
a rare distinction of having lived through
19th, 20th and 21st centuries. It bears witness
to change without compromising on the
liberal traditions guided through its motto,
“COURAGE TO KNOW”. At GCU Lahore
students hailing from divergent ethnic,
sectarian and cultural backgrounds have
always studied together in the most congenial
atmosphere in order to be groomed as the
finest individuals known for their spirit of
inquiry, tolerance and an enviable sense of
sacrifice. It is a centre of academic excellence
and intellectual development in the country.
Ravians graduated from GCU continue to be

Our Intermediate programme is to impart, create and disseminate
knowledge and to develop informed, ethical and responsible
individuals who are prepared and committed to learn, lead and
serve. It is renowned for its exceptional college environment

 Vice Chancellor's Message
There has always been a tug of war between those who
vehemently advocate adherence to the conventions and
those who side with modernity in all its manifestations. The
Ravian experience as manifested in the finest traditions of
Government College (University) Lahore is one that blends
the two in the most articulate fashion. During the last 157
years, we have immersed in our academic scheme the
paramount educational norms of the 19th, 20th and 21st
centuries. The best illustration to justify this point is none
other than Dr Muhammad Iqbal - the most outstanding
old student of this college. Iqbal imbued in him the finest
literary trends of Persian, Arabic, Urdu and English verse,
besides delving upon the philosophical canons of the West
and the East. Do you know what role did Government
College of Lahore play in shaping his outlook on life?
For you to discover this point, I would like you to find out
about his devotion to his Professor of Philosophy Thomas
Arnold. It was indeed Prof. Arnold who guided him to
grow into a serious student of Philosophy. Iqbal’s adoration
of Prof. Arnold ultimately led him to become a serious
Muslim thinker whose equivalence in his field is difficult
to come across in the whole millennium.
It is no wonder then that the most brilliant among the
youth of Pakistan aspire to seek admission in GCU. The
materialization of this aspiration is quite distinctive for a
variety of reasons. I wish to draw your attention to some
of them. I want you to know that this is the oldest higher
education institution in the northern parts of the undivided
India. It flung its doors open to the students for the first
time on 1st January 1864. It was the first college that was
commissioned to impart western liberal education side
by side with the oriental subjects such as Islamic Studies,
Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi and Sanskrit.
The tradition of scientific inquiry and research was
also made to flourish in the four walls of Government
College. The temperament, which a person requires
to become a successful scientist, is best imparted at
GC. How else would two of our alumni make it to the
pedestal reserved exclusively for the Nobel Laureates?
I wonder if you know something about the great Dr
Abdus Salaam – a Physicist par excellence – and
Dr Har Gobind Khorana – an outstanding Chemist. Of
course, both these scientists conducted state-of-the-art
research in the West. But their formative habits were shaped
during the time that they spent at Government College. I
can refer to Dr Salam’s essay that he had contributed to
our students’ literary magazine The Ravi in 1989 – the
year when GC turned 125-year-old. He warmheartedly
remembered how he was the first science student of GC
who got to edit both the English and Urdu sections of The
Ravi. The only other student who got this privilege was
Patras Bokhari from the English Literature Department.
You see how a student of science was equally well-versed
in languages and literature. Let me quote the purpose of
education in the words of Dr Salam, “The primary purpose
of an educational system, in my view, is to develop a
person’s character.”
My dear students, I would like you to think about character.
How do we develop character in an educational institution?
While the society teaches you to be ambitious, competitive,
adamant, self-serving and victorious, we encourage you
to adopt all of these traits in a moderate way. We tell you
to rather accept failure than resorting to unfair means in
exams and more so in life! We teach you to let the better
pal win instead of playing foul. We urge you to contribute
to make the world around you a better place to live in rather
than complaining about its materialistic designs. How do
we achieve this end? We imbibe these values by helping
you simulate life-like situations in games, theatre, debates,
and social services projects run by various students’ clubs
and societies. It is through these imitations of life that
we help you discover the bonding power of love and the
demeaning capacity of hatred.
Let me assure you that the Government College lags behind
none of her peers. Our record of academic excellence in
the Lahore Board has been unbeaten since decades. Our
students engaged in sports outshine all right from the
district to the international levels with the same facility
and grace. Our old students have proven to be the best
athletes, cricketers, hockey players etc. You name a game
and you will find GC’s name written in glowing colours. It
is equally valid for film, television, theatre and music. Rafi
Peer, Khawaja Khurshid Anwar, and Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj
are a source of pride for us on account of their tremendous
work in these fields. The amphi theatre in the Lawrence
Garden (now Bagh-e-Jinnah) was designed and built by
the first Indian Principal of GC Prof. Guru Dutt Sondhi.
Sondhi Sahab built its replica next to the GC’s English
Department too. The fiercely independent minded jurist
Justice M. R. Kiyani and the leaders of the movement
for the establishment of the rule of law, such as, Aitzaz
Ahsan, are old Ravians. Our valiant martyrs, including
the recipient of Nishan-e-Haider Major Shabbir Sharif
Shaheed, were old Ravians too. The architects of Pakistan’s
nuclear programme, including Dr Ashfaq Ahmad and Dr
Samar Mubarak Mand, were the old students of GC.
Dear Students, if you can trace the footsteps of the persons
I have referred to, and if you resolve to adopt the traits I
have mentioned here, I can assure you that 50 years from
now, people all around the world will celebrate your stature
and contribution to the welfare of mankind. Inshallah!
May you all succeed in living your dreams in the best
possible manner while studying at Government College.

Dear Students
The Intermediate Studies bear increased
significance in your lives because this is
the time when the foundation of your future
careers is laid. A minor lapse or negligence
can cast dark shadows on your path, which is
likely to affect your progression in life quite
adversely! We, therefore, are fully committed
to making your academic journey prosperous
and rewarding.
The cornerstone of our classroom teaching is
the spirit of inquiry that our teachers invoke
in your inquisitive minds. We do not stress
on the acquisition and retention of facts and
opinions during the course of your studies.
Rather, we encourage our students to think
and put the given facts and opinions to incisive
questioning. It is not gratifying for our teachers
that the students accept things on face value.
They are delighted when the students’ minds
are inclined towards reviewing the information
from multiple perspectives. This approach
trains the students to become research oriented,
which ultimately leads them to discover unique
aspects of human experience in the world
around them.
The most significant aspect of learning at this
level is to introduce our students to independent
reading. While it is important to train our
students to fare reasonably well in the Board
Examinations – something that they invariably
do by way of a habit imbued in them due to
the peer pressure and social competition – it is
most important for them to explore the world of
letters through extensive reading. This trait, if
acquired, makes them distinctive among their
competitors. Our library collections offer the
best books of the classical and contemporary
sensibilities in all domains of human knowledge
and divine. A young fellow, who becomes a
bibliophile at this stage in life, will seldom fall
short of becoming an awe-inspiring figure in
the realm of his choice!
Another characteristic of the Ravian milieu
is the diverse co-curricular activities that
are conceived and managed by the students’
societies and clubs. These initiatives are
exclusively led by the brilliant students
themselves. However, they undertake all
their activities in close coordination with
their teachers who keep liaison with them in
an advisory role. A diverse assortment of
activities; such as, debates, dramatics, quiz,
music, literary and scientific activities are
regularly organized throughout the academic
session. The students manage to hone their
creative, argumentative, imaginative and
leadership abilities by partaking in these
activities.
A curious, young mind needs constant
counseling and guidance to steer through the
quagmire of existence. We have arranged a
tutorial system, wherein the students from all
the academic groups come together in small
numbers to address their doubts and concerns
in consultation with their teachers. The tutorial
groups also arrange excursion trips, social
service activities and interactive sessions
with the inspiring personalities from different
professional backgrounds.
To conclude, we are cognizant of the academic,
social and psychological needs of the students
at the Intermediate level and we are fully
prepared to take up this challenge with zeal and
zest.

New Measures for Intermediate Studies
In the academic year 2021, the Government College University has taken several new initiatives
for the quality enhancement of the academic milieu of the Intermediate classes.
• The selection process for the Intermediate Faculty was made rigorous and competitive by
introducing the written test and then interviews through a committee of senior academics
which the Vice Chancellor chaired.
• Induction training sessions have been arranged to review the contemporary pedagogical
practices and subject-related nuances.
• New Academic Coordinators and Subject Coordinators have been appointed to properly
regulate the academic work. They will monitor the classroom teaching and implement the
subject test sessions and provide feedback to the students.
• The number of students’ societies and clubs at the Intermediate level has been increased to 18.
It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to acquire soft skills, unconventional knowledge
and polish their innate talent in simulated settings. All societies will work under the umbrella
of the Young Ravians Club.
• The tutorial system has been completely overhauled. It will now offer counseling to the
students on academic, emotional, psychological and career related matters. They will arrange
small scale activities, educational trips and social service projects all by themselves.
• Sports activities will be organized for the Intermediate students under the auspices of Majid
Khan Sports Club. All these measures will help our students excel in their studies and become
well rounded individuals who will be charged up to reinvent their life and join Undergraduate
studies with all the requisite skills to achieve success in future.

GCU ’s historic campus is an oasis situated
in the middle of the commotion of
financial activity and the finest historical and artistic
masterpieces that Lahore has to offer. Mughal and
colonial architecture rubs shoulders with modern
buildings, and a beautiful canal, fringed with trees,
runs through the core of the city. Teeming with shady
parks, entertainment spots, shops and restaurants,
Lahore is home to festivals, sports galas, cinemas,
art galleries and museums which have led to its
recognition as the cultural hub of Pakistan.

G overnment College was founded in 1864
in the private residence of Raja Dhyan
Singh, with a class consisting of only nine
students. Twelve years later, the expansion of
the College necessitated its shift to its present
location at Anarkali. In 2002, Govt. College
was awarded university status and renamed
as Government College University. In 157
years since its inception, the College has been
home to eminent scholars and has produced
individuals who excelled in every field.

 Dr Muhammad Iqbal
(November 9, 1877 – April 21, 1938)
Dr Iqbal is revered as the National Poet of Pakistan. As one of the most influential
GC alumni in Philosophy, Arabic and English Literature and an essential thinker and
philosopher, Iqbal epitomizes the courage to know. His incomparable patriotic and
prophetic invocations in poetry infused inspiration and vigour in the struggle for a
separate homeland carried out by the Muslims of Subcontinent up until 1947. His worthy
name is  synonymous to GCU and its Ravian spirit now.

 Faiz Ahmad Faiz
(February 13, 1911 – November 20, 1984
Faiz was a revolutionary and one of the most celebrated poets of Urdu language.
Educated at Government College, Faiz was nominated for Nobel Prize in Literature and
won the Lenin Peace Prize. Government of Pakistan conferred upon him the nation’s
highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 1990.

 Dr Abdus Salam
(January 29, 1926 – November 21, 1996)
Dr Salam brought laurels to his alma mater, Government College, Lahore, as the
1979 Nobel Prize recipient along with Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg for his
investigation in electroweak unification theory in Physics. His gratitude to Government
College, enthused him with a passion to serve his own institution as Professor of
Mathematics until 1954. As an acknowledgment of his unprecedented potential in this
field, The International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, was named after
him.

 Dr Har Gobind Khorana
(January 9, 1922 – November 9, 2011)
Dr Khorana earned his BSc and MSc degrees from Government College, Lahore. He
was an acclaimed Biochemist, who won and shared the 1968 Nobel Prize for Physiology
(Medicine) with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley. His study was a
breakthrough in discovering how the order of nucleotides in nucleic acids determines
protein synthesis in a cell. His outstanding research skills earned a raised status for
his country at home and abroad. As recognition of his talent, he served as Professor of
Biology and Chemistry at MIT.

A Vibrant Life
Beyond The Classroom

P articipation in co-curricular activities on

campus plays a key role in the personal
development of students. It shapes a student’s
collegiate experience like nothing else. Students
participate in the co-curricular activities not only
for pleasure, but most importantly to acquire and
improve various social, managerial and leadership
skills. Such activities form a healthy relationship
among the students and develop a sense of co-
ordination in the growth of the students with
faculty and administration.
At Intermediate level, we have eight (8) different
societies and clubs that provide a place of
friendship, personal development, career growth
and academic inclusiveness to our Intermediate
Ravians.

Annual Sports Gala for
Intermediate Students
Department of Intermediate Studies conducts
annual GCU Sports Gala for the young
Ravians in the months of January and
February. The sole purpose of this activity is
to provide students with knowledge, skills and
behaviors to enable them to achieve a degree
of autonomy in developing and maintaining
their physical, mental, social and emotional
health. It also focuses on the importance of a
healthy lifestyle and physical activity in the
lives of individuals and groups in our society.

Young Speakers’ Union
Government College University Debating
Society has been the torch-bearer of
intellectual traditions not only on the campus,
but in the entire country as well. In the year
2020, Young Speakers’ Union was formed
as a reconstitution to the Young Students’
Union from 1970, to cater the students from
Intermediate, in particular, in the debating
arena. Carrying forward the glorious
traditions that have inculcated the pursuit
of critical thinking and the art of persuasion
among the students. Young Speakers’ Union
trains students in all formats of public
speaking. The students from Young Speakers’
Union, in their novice year, have won
national and international accolades in Model
United Nations, Parliamentary Debates and
Declamation contests. The society regularly
organizes weekly study circles and debating
camps to sharpen the young minds in order
to steer them in a direction where they
can unlearn the preconceived notions and
societal biases. In addition to that, the society
organizes monthly debates in three languages
i.e. Urdu, English and Punjabi in both serious
and humorous formats.

Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj
Society for Dramatics
Our Dramatics Club is committed to
tapping into students’ acting potential
and into their ability to simulate on
stage extraordinary life events with a
realistic touch. Its members receive
recognition for their outstanding
acting, script writing and producing
theatrical performances from other
institutions and production houses.
The club boasts of having nurtured
the potential of many nationally and
internationally acclaimed alumni in
dramatics who have been showbiz
celebrities for years. Performances
organized by the Club are the liveliest
and the most awaited events on the
campus.

Nazir Ahmad
Music Society
Nazir Ahmad Music Society was founded
for cultivating the talent in singing and
affirming the significance of music in
life. It encourages students' as well as
faculty's participation in music not only as
a performer but also as a participant. The
ensembles of the society enrich campus
life by orchestrating performances at all
celebrations and concerts at Government
College University.

The Rovers’ Club
Established in 1918, the Rovers' Club
is one of the oldest student societies
of the institution. Organizing hiking
trips, going on expeditions to remote
places and developing survival skills
are the hallmark of this club. Our
scouts are involved in doing indoor
and outdoor activities in a close-knit
group. They develop the courage
to challenge themselves in various
expeditions across Pakistan.

Imdaad Hussain Society
for English
Imdaad Hussain, Society named after the
renowned academic Dr Imdaad, aims at
instilling a culture of critical thinking among
pre-graduate students, when they are already
grappling with conflicting preparation
techniques like rote learning or excelling in
their education.
The avenues for extracurricular activities
provides the students with an apt exposure of
public speaking and mutual interactions. The
society is particularly focused towards the
literary and socio-political aspects of English
as a language, and is also aimed towards
conducting seminars for social awareness in
keeping with the current trending issues.

Dr Samar Mubarakmand Society for
Sciences (DSMS)
The society was established to quench the thirst of "Science Students" to explore
the nature and its environment. The main objective of DSMS is to widen the
outlook of our intermediate students in applying scientific knowledge in daily life.
It is the pioneer science society for the Intermediate level of education which got
the inspiration for its name from a renowned Ravian, Dr Samar Mubarakmand, an
eminent Pakistani nuclear scientist who was the team leader of atomic bomb test
explosion in 1998 at Chaghi. Dr Samar Mubarakmand also remained the director
of our Research Center and Center for Advanced Studies in Physics (CASP) from
1974 to 1976.

(YRC)
YRC is the first ever exclusive club
for the Intermediate students to
provide them a platform to enhance
their hidden talent, to lead and learn
to be a great individual by character.
It gives the students best possible
opportunities to arrange different
co-curricular and extracurricular
activities, which establish and polish
their skills to make them good
leaders, globally competitive, morally
upright and well-rounded disciplined
individuals.

Care for Special Needs
If you have special needs, please feel free
to disclose these to the institution at the
time of application. Once you have been
admitted to GCU, we promise to take
care of your learning needs. Our campus
is equipped with ramps and special needs
facilities to ensure access and mobility. A
Center for Special Students (CSS) is set
up to provide all kinds of academic and
logistical support.

Student Financial Aid Office
(SFAO)
For smooth execution of scholarship
programmes, Student Financial Aid
Office (SFAO) was established at GC
University Lahore in collaboration
with HEC in 2005. Initially, Rs.
409,000/- were provided by HEC for
the establishment and operational cost
of SFAO for the period of one year
only.
In the financial year 2012-2013, HEC
allocated Rs. 5.0 million to strengthen
Financial Aid Office. In this regard,
SFAO was shifted to its new separate
premises in the basement of Student
Service Centre.
SFAO is being supervised by
Additional Registrar (Academics),
who also acts as focal person for the
distribution of various scholarships
offered by HEC and other agencies.
There is a list of scholarships available
on need and merit basis for students
to cater their educational expenses. In
addition to the above, a Financial Aid
Committee has been constituted for
evaluating and approving applications
of students requiring financial aid.
In the financial year 2020-21, 386
students were granted financial
assistance/scholarships at intermediate
level.

How to Apply
A comprehensive, transparent and
unbiased scheme for the assessment
and selection of deserving students is
followed by the Scholarship / Financial
Aid Committees. If you are interested,
apply on the prescribed form when
the SFAO will announce call for
applications.
All the applications for scholarships
and financial aid will be evaluated
and recommended by the University's
Scholarship / FinancialAid Committees.
Scholarships and financial aid are
based on the assessment of need and
merit as well as availability of funds.
Selection is based on information
provided on the application form,
supporting documents and interview
of the candidate if required.
Providing false information may result

Endowment Fund Trust
Scholarships
Every year, the GCU Endowment
Fund Trust provides millions of rupees
to hundreds of deserving students to
help them complete their education.
Run on donations from GCU alumni,
philanthropists, banks, businessmen,
the Lahore Chamber of Commerce
and Industries, and other charitable
individuals and organizations, the EFT
is a crucial source of funding. In 2021,
the trust allocated a sum of Rs. 22.633
million to aid 772 deserving students.
While disadvantaged students are
the EFT’s priority, the Trust also
contributes to other university
expenses in order to ensure that high
standards of education at GCU remain
unaffected by the rising demand and
cost of resources. Donating to the costs
for building the new Kala Shah Kaku
campus, the preservation of GCU’s
historic buildings and other activities,
the EFT is integral to the provision of
a quality education at GCU.
Permanent scholarships have also
been initiated by the Trust. The
Golden Scholarship covers the
university fee and hostel expenses
(approximately Rs. 80,000) subject
to meeting requirements. The Silver
Scholarship covers the university
fee (Rs. 40,000). Currently, the Trust
has 116 Golden Scholarships and 95
Silver Scholarships. Eligible students

can apply for these scholarships at
the beginning of the academic year. If
successful, they receive scholarships
for one year, which may be renewed
the next year if conditions are met.
Donations of any amount are welcomed
by the Trust; however, for the initiation
of the ‘Golden Scholarship’ and the
‘Silver Scholarship’, donations of
Rs. 1,000,000, and Rs. 500,000 are
respectively required. These permanent
scholarships are named after the donor
and awarded every year. Zakat and
charity are also accepted.
The trust plans to raise its funds to
1 billion rupees by 2025, so that
no deserving student experiences a
financial barrier in completing their
degree. GCU Endowment Fund Trust
is not merely a success story, but a
role model for Pakistan’s public sector
universities.

The pathway to sciences will prepare you for an intensive science-related degree and a diverse

Enrollment in the subject of Fine Arts is based on entry test conducted by the department. Students
are advised to contact the department concerned.

Change of Subjects
The set/ group of subjects once selected in accordance with the given sets can only be changed
within a specified period of time as notified by the University.
The dates for change of subjects shall be notified after the University admissions have been
finalized. Change of subjects shall not be allowed after the expiry of the notified period.
The choice of subjects should be in accordance with the given sets.
Subject combination (set) can only be selected from the sets given in the prospectus. In case a
student selects subjects different from the given subject combination (set), they shall have to
change these subjects in accordance with the given sets.
A student who wishes to study Fine Arts will be required to qualify an entry test to prove his ability
at the beginning of the Academic Session. In case of failure in the test, the student will have to
select another subject. In this connection, he will be required to fill in a Declaration Form and
submit it along with the Admission Form.
Pakistani students will have to study the same syllabus for compulsory Urdu whether they come
from English medium or Urdu medium schools.
Students who wish to attempt a paper in English in the Board Examination must attempt all papers
in English, including Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies.
Conversion of admission from one group to another group is allowed on merit, subject to the
availability of seat in that group.

Advisor Students' Affairs
The Advisor Students' Affairs facilitates
students in addressing problems pertaining
to academics, co-curricular activities, sports,
libraries, examinations, transportation, health,
fee, career planning, discipline, etc.
The Advisor Students' Affairs also looks
after the Seniors' Club having a number of
outstanding students from academics, sports
and co-curricular activities. The Club discusses
student issues and holds meetings with the
officials of the University in order to address

A new health and well-being centre
has been established to provide
improved healthcare facilities to
faculty, students and staff. The
Medical Officers and their staff are
available on working days to provide
students with medical services. A
special ambulance service is also
available round the clock near GCU
Mosque.

Student Counseling
Service
The Centre is managed by a trained and
full time clinical psychologist. The mode
of counseling is focused on problem-
solving and short-term guidance,
lasting about 6-8 sessions. Counseling
is available for issues about academic,
social and personal development. The
Campus Counselor also carries out
psychological assessments for those
who request psychometric evaluation.

GCU is committed to creating and
maintaining an efficient educational
and working environment, free from any form of
discrimination and harassment. The University’s
Anti Harassment Committee is entrusted with
the responsibility of dealing with cases of an
extraordinarily personal nature, if there are any. This
Committee takes up all representations on priority
basis and ensures effective dispensation of justice,

Accommodation
The Iqbal Hostel and the Quaid-i-Azam Hostel are reserved for
Intermediate students hailing from areas other than Lahore. Due
to limited accommodation facilities, the students are admitted
only on merit. The Iqbal Hostel, built in 1891, originally known
as 'The Quadrangle', and the Quaid-i-Azam Hostel, built in 1993,
are situated on GCU’s main campus.

University Transport
Paid transport facilities are available for the students on
specific routes. The Transport Office generally starts issuing
passes for the new academic year from the date the first year
admission lists are displayed in the University. As the seats
are limited, passes are issued on first come first served basis
by the Transport Office. New passes are issued every year.

General Admission Regulations
Admission is granted strictly on merit in
accordance with Rules and Regulations as
well as general policy and procedures of the
University.
University reserves the right to reject the
incomplete applications for admission without
intimation to the applicant.
University reserves the right to cancel the
admission or refuse migration to a candidate,
if at any stage, after the admission or
migration, it comes to their knowledge that the
documents presented by him are fake or there
is misstatement or an error in documents which
may affect the admission merit.
Entrance Requirements
Only those candidates who have passed
their Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
Examination in the 2nd Annual 2016 and
onward with at least 60% marks will be eligible
to apply for admission. An affidavit shall have
to be attached to this effect that the candidate has
not taken admission in any Institution/College.
Applicants who have passed SSC (Tech) shall
not be eligible for admission.
Only eligible candidates will be selected for
interview.

c. The students from the local colleges are not
eligible to seek migration to GC University

d. The students migrating from other cities will
not be eligible for hostel accommodation.
e. At the time of migration, full University dues
are to be paid by the migrating students.
Ineligible for Admissions
As per BISE Lahore, Registration Manual

Admissions to Hostels
Every student is expected to live in harmony
with his parents. The student who is desirous of
living with some close relative, other than the
parents, should produce a written permission
letter signed duly to this effect by his father
or guardian. The name of the relative, his
occupation, designation, address and precise
relationship must be specified. It will not be
enough to write that the student is going to
reside with his cousin, etc.
The students of intermediate classes, wishing
to reside in these hostels, should obtain the
Application Form from the office of the Iqbal
Hostel and submit it to the same office for
the admission year 2021. The schedule of
admissions to the hostels will be notified on
the Notice Boards of Iqbal Hostel and Quaid-
e-Azam Hostel.
Allocation of seats on open merit and reserved
quota in the Iqbal Hostel and Quaid-i-Azam
Hostel will be made according to the policy.
Admission to the hostel is given on merit
for ONE Academic Year only. The hostel
authorities have the right to refuse admission
to a class XI resident in class XII if his conduct
or behaviour during the previous year has been
unbecoming or he has been found guilty of
infringement of hostel rules.

Fee / Dues Rules & Regulations

I. The student will be required to pay his fee/dues after the admission within due date as per
merit list.
II. Fee/dues shall be deposited directly in the Bank Accounts through fee challan in cash only.
(Note: Cheque, Demand Draft, Pay Order, etc. will not be acceptable.)
III. For all overseas seats US Dollar 1,000/- shall be charged per student for each year in addition
to his regular fee.
IV. If a fee challan is lost by the student, he will have to pay Rs. 50/- for duplicate fee challan.
V. Fee/dues once paid by the students including Foreigners and Overseas Pakistanis shall not
be refunded.
VI. In case, student fails to pay his dues by the specified dates (as per fee notices issued by the
Treasurer’s Office) he will be fined as under:

VII. A student who wants to apply for fee concession on the basis of Kinship (Real Brother/Sister

onwards. Forms are available in Fee Section of the Treasurer’s Office.
VIII. Late fee fine shall not be charged to the applicants of scholarship/Financial Aid upto 10th
day from the date of decision.
IX. The University/Hostel security shall be refunded if all university dues have been paid.
The University and Hostel security is refundable within two years after issuance of final
result notification. However, the competent authority may condone the late submission of
application for refund of security.
X. The students will pay their fee/dues as per schedule issued by the Treasurer’s Office.
However, the Treasurer may extend the date of submission of dues in Exceptional/Hardship
cases.
XI. University fees are usually announced twice a year (installment wise). However, fee rates
are subject to change without notice.

Residential Rules
• Residence is at all times subject
to good behaviour and can be
withdrawn at any time in the
interest of hostel discipline.
• Every resident is expected to
maintain discipline and good order
in the hostel, and should respect the
rights of other residents.
• Drinking, keeping liqour, drugs or
weapons (licensed or unlicensed)
and smoking in the hostel is strictly
prohibited and entails expulsion
from hostel.
• Students suffering from severe
psychiatric or physical diseases
such as schizophrenia, paranoid
disorders and blood disorders like
haemophilia or any other chronic
aliments requiring continuous
supervision will not be given
admission to the GCU hostels.
• No religious, social ceremony
or political activity, injurious to
the feelings of any resident, is
permitted.

• Every part of the hostel premises
shall remain open for inspection to
the authorities at all hours.
• Membership of the hotel mess is
compulsory for every resident.
• The resident has to pay his monthly
dues by the 10th of each month.

• No guest / outsider is allowed
to enter into the hostel premises
except parents / guardians.
• In any case, no guest/outsider is
permitted to stay in the hostel.
• The hostel will remain closed
during vacation / holidays or when
University is closed for more than
three days.
• In case of withdrawal/expulsion
due to indiscipline or misbehaviour
all deposits will be forfeited.

According to the University Rules,
every student of Intermediate (FA/
FSc/ICom) has to wear a Uniform. The
purpose of specifying a Uniform is
that the students should have a distinct
identity, and also, they refrain from
wearing expensive and gaudy clothes.

• It is compulsory for every
University student to obtain his
Identity Card from the University
ID Card Office immediately after
his admission. Defaulters will be
fined.
• Students are directed to contact

• If an Identity Card is lost, a new
Card will be issued for Rs.200/-.
• A student should always display his
Identity Card at all times. Anyone
not in possession of an ID Card will
be fined Rs. 50/-. Refusal to show
the Identity Card can entail heavy
fine, which will not be condoned.
• Student's Identity Card is the
property of the University. It is
compulsory for every student to
hand over his Identity Card to
the University ID Card Office for
record if he is dropped from the
University rolls, or migrates to
another college or at the termination
of the University session.
• For traveling purposes, another
Identity Card can be obtained from
the University ID Card Office after
admission by the students who
may need it. No certificate will
be issued unless the students have
deposited their Identity Cards to the
University.

Attendance & Leave
Rules
Biometric Attendance rule
The minimum attendance percentage in each
subject to qualify for the final examination
will be 75% as per Board of Intermediate
and Secondary Education Lahore (BISE)
regulations.
A student who remains absent for three
or more days in a month (in any subject),
continuously or otherwise, will be dropped
from the University's roll. He may apply for
re-admission within due date (mentioned in the
struck off notification).
In case of illness or any other emergency, a
student of FA/FSc/ICom has to apply for leave
with supporting documents to the office of
Director Intermediate Studies immediately
after joining the classes for the consideration
of the authorities.
For medical leave, students should apply
through parent/ guardian within three days of
illness. The leave application of a student will
have to be recommended and forwarded by the
University Medical Officer.
Overseas students can apply for the renewal/
extension of visa or to visit homeland under
unavoidable circumstances.
Duty leave will only be submitted to Office
of the Chairman Societies Board directly after
recommendation of the Incharge of a society/
Director Sports. Such recommendation must
be forwarded before a student proceeds
for participation in a game or co-curricular
activity. Any recommendation received after
the participation of a student in a game or co-
curricular activity shall not be considered.
Leave can only be sanctioned on the prescribed
pages of the Leave Book. The Leave Book can
be obtained from the Leave Clerk, Office of the
Director Intermediate Studies.
Struck off & Re-admission
The name of a student will be struck off from
the University's roll if he remains absent in
a subject for three days or more in a month,
continuously or otherwise. He may be allowed
Re-admission, provided he applies for Re-
admission within the due date (mentioned in
the struck off Notification). within the due date
(mentioned in the struck off Notification).
The Re-admission Fee will be Rs. 1000/-.
In case he does not apply for re-admission
within the due date, his admission will be
CANCELLED and his application for Re-
admission will NOT be considered.
If for some reasons, the Re-admitted student's
name is struck off from the University's roll
again, he will not be eligible for a second Re-
admission.
Re-admission can be granted
ONLY ONCE in the entire session.
University Leaving Rules
A student who wants to leave the University
should apply to the Registrar on the
prescribed proforma. His application must be
countersigned by his father/guardian.
University leaving certificate will only be
issued to the student whose case is verified and
authenticated by all the concerned departments
of the University and has deposited the
University leaving certificate fee and also there
is nothing outstanding against him.

student remains absent in any Test / Examination due
to unavoidable circumstances, he should apply to the
Controller of Examination for Makeup Test along with
the documentary proof of his absence, failing which,
he will be fined @ Rs. 200/- per paper maximum of
Rs. 1200/-.
• The internal grade of each student will be calculated
on the basis of his performance in the Tests /
Examinations, co-curricular activities and his general
conduct during the stay at the University. The same
will be forwarded to BISE Lahore for onward printing
on Intermediate Certificate.
• A student must attend 75% of the lectures delivered
in each subject to be eligible to appear in the Final
Examination of Intermediate Part-I & Part-II,
conducted by Lahore Board of Intermediate and
Secondary Education.
• The Examination Admission Forms for Part-I and
Part-II Final Examination will be submitted to BISE
Lahore provisionally. In case a student fails to fulfill
the following two conditions, his admission form
will be withdrawn from BISE Lahore before the
commencement of Final Examination.
i. If he does not attend 75% of the lectures delivered
in each subject.
ii. If he fails to qualify/remain absent in the Tests /
Examination conducted by the University.
