This document provides procedures for correcting Temporary & Preliminary (T&P) notices on ECDIS systems. It outlines that the navigating officer should correct ENCs for all relevant T&Ps within 20nm of the route. It also describes that Admiralty Information Overlay (AIO) should be used to display T&Ps if the country producing the ENCs does not already include them. The document then details the step-by-step procedures for applying AIO corrections on both AIO-compatible and non-compatible ECDIS systems.

Corrections and Admiralty Information Overlay (AIO) Navigating officer or delegated nautical officer to perform this task Correct ENC’s for all T&P’s that affects safe passage within 20nm on either side of the route. Many countries now issue T & P information as standard update to their ENCs. If you are using ENCs issued by one of these countries, you don’t need to use AIO for T & P notices. List of countries that include T&P’s is found on UKHO website and in weekly AVCS update
Correction Procedures for AIO Compatible ECDIS
Admiralty Information Overlay (AIO) to be used for T & P presentation only if the country producing the electronic chart does not include these as an update to their ENCs.
1. Weekly AIO updates are supplied to the ships or downloaded via
ChartCo One Ocean and applied to the ECDIS (refer One Ocean manual and BIB procedure for updating ECDIS) 2. Display the AIO layer while passage planning. Polygons with a hatched fill which indicating the area affected by the NM will now be visible. ECDIS pick report can be used to interrogate the NM in detail. 3. Check the NM polygons that are relevant to the passage and incorporate the information contained (by manual updates or mariners notes) such that it is readily visible during passage monitoring.Make separate folder for each geographical area (where the ECDIS type permits this 4. For hatched fill polygons indicating a ‘No Overlay’ area, appropriate local sources of information should be consulted. 5. Each week, after applying the updates of AIO, recheck the route and incorporate (by manual updates or mariners notes) any new NMs and delete any cancelled ones. 6. While scrolling through the route to check for applicable NMs, the best scale ENC of the Vessel’s outfit, at compilation scale should be displayed. 7. Make DOL entry on completion of the update procedure and validation of the route.
Correction Procedures for AIO Non-Compatible ECDIS
If the country producing the electronic charts does not include these as an update to their ENCs, apply manually in ECDIS all T&P notices that affects the safe passage
1. Determine T&P’s applicable for voyage from either:
0. ChartCo OneOcean; or a. Admiralty Digital Catalogue (ADC) 2. Refer One Ocean user Manual, ADC, ECDIS to
0. Print out T and P NM’s applicable to voyage.
a. Make separate note folder for each geographical area (where ECDIS type permits this) and apply manually the T & P information. b. Every week after updating the ECDIS, the corresponding Week’s NTM (Section 2 part 3 of 3) should be checked for new T&P and the same applied. c. Every week after updating the ECDIS, the corresponding Week’s NTM Section 1 A should be checked for cancelled T&Ps. The same should be removed from ECDIS and the printout destroyed. d. Navigator to annotate and sign T&P printouts and file them along with the passage plan. e. Make DOL entry on completion of the update procedure and validation of the route.
