Resource Fair – Population Education

Population Education – A Program of Population Connection is a platform that is full of resources and
professional development for educators of grades K-12. Established in 1975, since then Population
Education has continued to develop age-appropriate resources to supplement social studies and science
instruction about human population, trends, and effects on natural resources.
All curriculum materials are classroom tested, and frequently updated. Resources are interdisciplinary
and hands-on focused with balanced discussion. (Population Education, 2021)

Population Education has Lesson Plans, Readings, classroom tools, and videos, which can all be filtered
by grade, subject and topic. The lesson plans accessible on the website fit with BC’s Curriculum Content
as there is a wide range of topics and lessons are very hands on focused.
Population Education also provides online and in-person workshops for Professional Development.
School districts can sign up to host a PD workshop in person, or you can register to join an online one.
These workshops do cost money, the current one being offered is $80.

The website is accessible and easy to navigate. Some lesson plans are free, and some require you to
purchase them. Videos are free and demonstrate to educators how to facilitate some of the activities.
The website is engaging as it has so much information, and is nicely laid out, making all information
accessible. This resource reflects modern pedagogy, as it provides lots of space for personalized
learning. You can use this resource for whole unit plans, individual lessons or supplementing activities.
Using this resource for your classroom could use a variety of time. If you were searching for a specific
topic, it could be quick as you can easily filter, where as if you were looking for ideas, it may take more
time to filter through what you were wanting to implement in your classroom.
This resource could be used interdisciplinary, as they provide lessons and resources for math, literacy,
social studies and science.
